Watch Russian Tank Get Destroyed In Kharkiv – Video footage shared on social media this week shows how some of Russia’s most modern tanks are still easily being taken out by Ukrainian artillery across Ukraine.
The video, shared on Twitter by Ukraine Weapons Tracker and similar war-tracking accounts, shows a Russian T-90M tank left completely destroyed, surrounded by battered Russian military vehicles and destroyed homes.
The video, which appears to have been recorded by a drone, shows the tank abandoned at the side of a road and engulfed in flames.
Thick black smoke can also be seen billowing from the top.
According to Ukraine Weapons Tracker, the strike occurred somewhere in Kharkiv Oblast and is the 12th known example of this particular kind of tank being destroyed or captured by Ukrainian forces.
“A Russian T-90M tank was destroyed by the Ukrainian 14th Mechanized Brigade in #Kharkiv Oblast,” the post reads.
“This is the 12th documented example of this modern platform that has been destroyed, damaged or captured in Ukraine.”
The destruction of Russia’s T-90M tanks is significant because it is substantially more capable than most tanks deployed by the Russian military in Ukraine.
Publicly unveiled in 2017, the T-90M is an upgraded version of the T-90 that features improved armor protection, including Relikt Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA).
The armor is designed to provide effective protection against tandem warheads and armor-piercing rounds.
It also features cage armor on some parts of the tank, which provides protection against anti-tank weapons.
Russia Claims to Have Captured Kharkiv Village
The Kharkiv footage comes as Russia claims to have “liberated” a village in Kharkiv Oblast. On Saturday, February 18, the Russian Ministry of Defence claimed that the village of Hrianykivka, located in the eastern region of Kharkiv, had been captured from the Ukrainians.
It’s the kind of news that the Kremlin wants to hear, but it may not change much for the Russians on the frontlines.
The village is located to the north of where most of the fighting is currently taking place, with some of the most intense fighting taking place in the city of Bakhmut, some 110 miles away.
In his nightly address on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the effort of Ukrainian forces in the Bakhmut region, acknowledging that the “most brutal and significant fighting is going on there.”
Ukrainian forces appear to be holding on in Bakhmut, despite Russian bombardments. In a video recorded on February 21, one Ukrainian service member describes how there has been no success by the Russian in Bakhmut, despite ongoing and frequent assault.
“These assaults are not stopping at all, and sometimes they happen 10 and 12 times a day,” the soldier says in the clip.
“It’s a mix of remnants of Wagner, airborne, motorized, infantry, and Luhansk and Donetsk zombies,” he continues, referencing Wagner private mercenaries and fighters from the separatist “states” of Luhansk and Donetsk.
