Is Hunter Biden In Even More Trouble Now?

Fox News is reporting that a slew of members from Hunter Biden’s former business firm visited the White House while Joe Biden was vice president. Should we care or is it just more partisanship?

Fox News is reporting that a slew of members from Hunter Biden’s former business firm visited the White House while Joe Biden was vice president.

More Hunter Biden Drama?

“Four business partners, a vice president, and two assistants at Hunter Biden’s now-defunct firm visited the White House more than 80 times when his father was vice president in the Obama administration,” Fox News reported.

President Biden has said he knows nothing about his son Hunter’s business dealings.

Fox however is eager to report that Joan Mayer, whose LinkedIn states she was the vice president of Hunter’s now-defunct investment firm Rosemont Seneca, visited the White House on 17 separate occasions.

“In October 2009, Mayer attended a vice presidential briefing and met with then-Biden aide Danielle Borrin. Less than a month later, she met with then-Biden executive assistant Nancy Orloff in the West Wing. In July 2013, she met in the West Wing with Kellen Suber, another executive assistant to Vice President Biden at the time,” Fox reported.

Okay, we get it. The vice president of Hunter’s firm visited the White House frequently, casting doubt on the idea that Joe Biden didn’t know what was going on in Hunter-world.

Does it matter?

I mean, it could – if there was something illegal going on. Was there something illegal happening, in the White House, under everyone’s noses? I don’t think Joan Mayer, whose LinkedIn says she worked with Hunter Biden, visiting the White House is a smoking gun exactly.

Fox News can do whatever they want – they’re a private media outlet. Have at it. But the Fox reportage mirrors ongoing efforts amongst conservative legislators to investigate and “get” Hunter Biden (and Joe Biden).

It’s what Donald Trump, or Marjorie Taylor Green, or Lauren Boebert would call a witch hunt.

It’s got the makings of an immense waste of taxpayer resources and an immense waste of legislator’s time. And if some lady named Joan Mayer visiting the White House repeatedly is supposed to be some major revelation, well then consider my reservations further heightened.

Heard it all before

Really, almost counterintuitively, one of the reasons I’m just not super interested in the Hunter Biden ordeal, or receptive to the Hunter Biden related “scoops” is that it all echoes the Trump stuff so closely. Democrats spent years investigating and reporting and talking about Trump in similar terms: ties to Russia; Putin’s puppet; shady business dealings; hiding tax filings; hush payments; election interference; etc. etc. etc.

And what’s come of it? I don’t doubt that Trump is a corrupt cat, but the sweeping plots and schemes Trump has been accused of have mostly crumbled to dust under any form of scrutiny. So far, the culmination of almost a decade of trying to “get” Trump is a legally untenable indictment for a hush money payment.

So, maybe I’m being short-sighted, maybe I’m not appreciating the potential implications here, but Fox and the GOP zeroing in on Hunter Biden just sounds like more of the same. Fox News getting all excited because Joan Mayer visited the White House while Joe Biden was vice president doesn’t mean much to me.

My instinct is that it’s more partisan hot air, the type of stuff that has just become standard operating procedure for the party in power to gum up the works of their opponent.
