The End of the Road for Hunter Biden

“Carry on my wayward son” is a lyric from a hit song from 1970s classic rock band Kansas. The wayward son these days just might be President Joe Biden’s oft-maligned progeny, Hunter Biden.

Boy do the Republicans have it in for Hunter and his laptop.

There will be a thorough Congressional investigation into Hunter’s exploits. After at least four years of digging by the federal government, Hunter faces the possibility he could be indicted under accusations of income tax crimes and allegedly lying on a federal form.

But Hunter’s lawyers are going on the offensive.

More Details Are Needed

But first, how about a short recap?

You see, the laptop saga started when Hunter brought it into a Delaware repair shop and forgot about it. The device appeared to contain some worrisome details for the Bidens — specifically, emails that may hint at alleged corruption involving the Biden family.

The New York Post did an expose on the emails, and you probably know what ensued.

The story was quashed by social media outlets, mainly because a group of former intelligence officers and analysts said the laptop was a Russian disinformation project.

Republicans believed that the laptop news, had it not been censored by Big Tech, was enough to sway the election in Trump’s favor.

Hunter Biden Has a New Defense

This brings us back to Hunter’s attorneys.

A few months back, they declared that the information on Hunter’s laptop was his and his alone and that the various federal bodies investigating Hunter, such as the Department of Justice and the Internal Revenue Service, should not have been privy to the information on the computer.

The lawyers allege a violation of Hunter’s right to privacy.

An Investigation Beyond Just Hunter’s Taxes

It’s not clear how successful this legal gambit will be, but it shows that Hunter is happy to string out the investigation.

Still, Republicans are not discouraged.

They think the laptop holds evidence that Hunter was involved in dirty dealings — more than just alleged tax evasion.

The House GOP is investigating whether President Biden’s son has engaged in influence peddling, money laundering, bribery, and illegal foreign lobbying.

Some columnists, such as Ana Marie Cox, the founder of the tabloid blog Wonkette, are more sympathetic to Hunter because of his past substance abuse and addiction.

But even Cox thinks that Hunter has slipped through the cracks legally because of the privilege of being Joe Biden’s son. Cox believes that Hunter has some “questions to answer.”

Hunter has enjoyed the full support and love from his father, and that is what most families struggle with when their sons or daughters fall victim to addiction.

However, Hunter’s activities may still get him indicted, especially if Republicans uncover evidence of serious transgressions.

Hunter Biden: He’s Old Enough to Know Better

There is a rule that young children of presidents are hands-off from prying media coverage. But the gloves are off for Hunter, who is 53, and way past being a young man with some personal problems.

The House Oversight Committee doesn’t care about Hunter’s addiction. They are baring their teeth already.

The committee said it is “investigating the Biden family’s domestic and international business dealings to determine whether these activities compromise U.S. national security and President Biden’s ability to lead with impartiality. Members of the Biden family have a pattern of peddling access to the highest levels of government to enrich themselves, often to the detriment of U.S. interests.”

So, Hunter will be a household name for the rest of the Biden presidency. He will need the best legal representation he can find, and the finest medical help available should he relapse in recovery. It is not fair being a president’s son, but Hunter is well past the age where he could write off any misdeeds as a youthful dalliance.

It will be a long time before Hunter Biden can “lay his weary head to rest,” as the band Kansas sang.
