AOC Hawks Her New Green Deal During Canadian Wildfire Smoke Storm – I see it outside my door in Washington, DC, and it doesn’t look pretty.
I’m talking about the cloudy, hazy skies filled with smoke and residue from wildfires in Canada wafting down from the Great White North.
This has the climate police up in arms in the nation’s capital who believe this “red zone” of poor air quality is a sign of dangerous climate change and that we are all doomed.
Such is the reasoning behind Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez thinking about the climate crisis. AOC is again pushing her quixotic Green New Deal that would incredibly alter the American way of life and force people into a what sounds like a socialist society.
Here We Go Again, AOC
AOC took to Twitter to scold us and catastrophize about the end of the world that can only be saved by her version of utopia.
“Between NYC in wildfire smoke and this in PR [Puerto Rico], it bears repeating how unprepared we are for the climate crisis,” she tweeted.
“We must adapt our food systems, energy grids, infrastructure, healthcare, etc. ASAP to prepare for what’s to come and catch up to what is already here #Green New Deal.”
The Latest Event Started in Canada Not the United States
Canada is suffering with around 413 active wildfires belching smoke. Many parts of Canada are hot and dry. The winds are not helping. More than 8 million acres across the country have scorched the provinces. AOC offered no evidence of how her Green New Deal is expected to remedy wildfires that are sometimes caused by poor fire management by people who administer forests.
Air Quality on the East Coast Is Poor
The smoke is making things difficult for New York City and other cities on the eastern seaboard and byproducts in the air are even traveling westward. Meteorologists believe this will eventually dissipate in the DC metro area, but people with health restrictions are told to stay indoors until then.
To remedy these adverse events, AOC and her ally Democrat Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts, are back at it for another bite at the apple on the New Green Deal that has failed miserably in Congressional votes before. In 2021, the U.S. Senate voted on an amendment that would “prohibit legislation or regulations that implement the Green New Deal.” The amendment passed 99 to 0.
On March 26, 2019, the Senate voted on the Green New Deal. No senator voted for the bill and 57 were against it. Forty-three Democrat senators voted present. The Green New Deal is estimated to cost at least $51 trillion and would set back every household more than $36,000 each year, according to the American Action Forum.
What Is This Monstrosity?
The Green New Deal purports to fight climate change with the usual calls for a complete Green Energy transition, but it also includes a puzzling socialist wish list for policy ideas unrelated to the climate. It would guarantee union jobs for all with ample government interference in the free market. The Green New Deal would also provide universal housing for every American and murky claims of economic justice and equality.
Inexplicably, the Green New Deal would force people to completely reconfigure their existing homes to get in line with the climate police. All motor vehicles would be forced to become carbon neutral. Agriculture would also be re-invented affecting all farmers and ranchers.
It’s not just AOC pushing these disastrous “solutions.” The latest Green New Deal bill introduced this year has 95 cosponsors in the House and 11 cosponsors in the Senate. Its passage in the House is unlikely as the Republicans control the chamber and the Green New Deal legislation was referred to 11 committees which would force passage in those panels – a tall task.
Unfortunately, whenever there is a natural disaster or a temporary change in air temperature, AOC and her allies trot out the Green New Deal, which has support from only a vocal minority on Capitol Hill and various extreme leftwing nonprofits. Of course, it’s a free country and people have a right to support plans that they believe are necessary, but such a broad re-make of American life with stipulations that have nothing to do with climate change is a fool’s errand.
Nevertheless, look for more climate alarmists to get out the big guns in the future whenever there is hot and dry weather.
