Joe Biden and That $5 Million Bribe Rumor Might Finally Die

Apparently, the document alleges that a $5 million bribery scheme was enacted involving then-Vice President Joe Biden and a foreign national.

The standoff that began on May 3, between FBI Director Christopher Wray and the House Oversight Committee, over a subpoena to release a document relating to the Biden family business dealings investigation, has concluded. Wray capitulated, agreeing to hand over the subpoenaed document to the House, who can begin reviewing the documents as early as today.

“A spokesman for the Oversight Committee told DailyMail.com members can start reviewing the document from today under lock and key inside a SCIF (sensitive compartmented information facility), but most members have gone home for the weekend,” The Daily Mail reported.

Initially, Wray refused to cooperate, saying that he would only share the documents with the investigation’s chair, Republican Representative James Comer, and the ranking Democrat, Representative Jamie Raskin – but no one else. Comer and Raskin have already seen the document, and naturally, had different takes on the material’s significance. The document was troubling, according to Comer, whereas the document was nothing, according to Raskin.

The House pressed and Wray relented

“Comer wanted all members of the committee to be able to see the document, unredacted” The Daily Mail reported. Wray said no, and Comer threatened to hold Wray in contempt. “But, on Wednesday, Comer called off the vote on contempt after Wray agreed to allow the full committee to access a redacted file.”

Raskin suggested he wasn’t pleased with Comer’s tactics. “Holding someone in contempt of Congress is among the most serious actions our Committee can take and it should not be weaponized to undermine the FBI,” Raskin said.

Comer, who seems like a twerp, boasted after the deal was struck that Wray had “caved” to Comer’s demands in allowing the full committee to view the document.

Here’s what Comer had to say verbatim: “After weeks of refusing to even admit the FD-1023 record exits, the FBI has caved and is now allowing all members of the Oversight and Accountability Committee to review this unclassified record that memorializes a confidential human source’s conversations with a foreign national who claimed to have bribed then-Vice President Joe Biden,” Comer said. “Americans have lost trust in the FBI’s ability to enforce the law impartially and demand answers, transparency, and accountability. Allowing all Oversight Committee members to review this record is an important step toward conducting oversight of the FBI and holding it accountable to the American people.”

Is the document credible?

According to The Daily Mail, “the Biden document at the center of the new dispute was written up by a longtime FBI source whom both Republicans and Democrats have described as credible.” Within the document, “the source details an unverified tip received in 2020 about the business dealings of Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, in Ukraine.”

Apparently, the document alleges that a $5 million bribery scheme was enacted involving then-Vice President Joe Biden and a foreign national.

Fair enough. Although, I am skeptical that Republicans are actually going to find evidence of substantive wrongdoing. My sense is that the Oversight Committee is being wielded for political purposes – which is far from unusual, of course – but wastes government resources on tasks not meant for the government. Granted, Republicans are retaliating for the treatment Trump received from Congress during his administration, but that doesn’t make what is happening now appropriate.
