IS AOC Scamming America?

This time the New York Congresswoman has been accused of being a “total fraud” for comments made three years ago. AOC was speaking to a crowd at Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network convention in 2019. She clearly used a different accent when talking to the group than what she usually displays.

Back in April, AOC was  accused of being a “total fraud” for comments made three years ago.

AOC was speaking to a crowd at Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network convention in 2019. She clearly used a different accent when talking to the group than what she usually displays.

AOC is being accused of pandering to voters with the different accent. Parts of this speech were spread on Twitter April 11.

AOC: Another Humorous Incident

watched the video and had to chuckle.

AOC sounded completely different than the way she usually talks.

“I’m proud of being a bartender. Ain’t nothing wrong with that,” she exclaimed during the convention.

This was spliced together with another statement that showed AOC with a more refined “high-class” accent where she used formal and not colloquial English.

If She Can Make It Here, She Can Make It Anywhere

In defense of the firebrand socialist, she only tried to explain how Americans from humble backgrounds and blue-collar jobs can rise to the level of being elected to Congress. One does not have to be blessed with an elitist background to achieve higher office.

“There’s nothing wrong with working retail, folding clothes for other people to buy. There is nothing wrong with preparing the food that your neighbors will eat. There is nothing wrong with driving the buses that take your family to work. There is nothing wrong with being a working person in the United States of America and there is everything dignified about it,” she said at the conference.

Is She Really a Blue Collar Gal?

AOC has long portrayed herself as a working-class person who emerged victorious from poverty.

Detractors point out that she grew up and went to high school in Yorktown Heights in wealthy Westchester County – a tony suburb of New York City. Her dad was an architect. She also attended Boston University, a private college that costs over $80,000 a year in today’s dollars.

But she did serve as a bartender, and that could qualify her as a member of the working class for sure. Even though some who have this position can make a desirable wage and tips depending on the type of bar and restaurant. AOC usually does not mention the name of the bar she worked in – we must assume it was in a blue-collar neighborhood.

The latest video displaying her different accent made the rounds on Twitter. One user asked if it was a “Saturday Night Live” skit. Another tweet accused her of pandering to a minority audience.

Let’s Take the Insults Down a Notch

Others defended her. One account said, “I’m no AOC fan but this is petty nonsense to be making a case about. Politicians from both parties change the cadence of their voice all the time depending on the audience. It’s also common for people from certain backgrounds to code switch depending on who they’re with.”

AOC also once pretended to be handcuffed during a protest. Video later showed she had no restraints.

The leader of the “Squad” group of progressive House lawmakers is also embroiled in an ethics complaint for not promptly reimbursing stylists who decked her out in a dress that said “Tax the Rich” at the Met Gala.

AOC’s Use of Colloquial Accent on Display Again – One thing you can count on with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, she receives social media scrutiny for whatever she does.

But despite these troubles, you must hand it to AOC. She is not afraid to fire up a crowd, even when she resorts to different accents depending on who the audience consists of. On the other hand, she may want to try speaking consistently if she wants to avoid accusations that she is a fraud.
