After lab test results for a white substance discovered at the White House came back positive for cocaine on Sunday, former President Donald Trump lashed out on Truth Social.
Did Donald Trump Go Too Far?
In the post, the former president suggested that the drugs may have been used by President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.
The post also included derogatory comments about special counsel Jack Smith – the man tasked with investigating alleged criminal conduct by the former president.
What Was Found?
A spokesman for the Secret Service told CNN that field testing initially showed a positive result for cocaine, and after the substance was later sent for more extensive testing, the results confirmed that it was a controlled substance.
The bag of white powder was discovered in an area where guests are often asked to leave their cell phones before being taken for a tour of the West Wing. Secret Service agents have since begun investigating the matter, including checking visitor logs and looking at security camera footage.
Given that White House officials, as well as family members, have access to the same areas as guests, the powder could theoretically have been brought into the property by a Biden admin official or a family member.
Since the news was revealed, many conservative commentators have speculated that the drugs may have been brought into the White House by Hunter Biden. The son of the president has long suffered from drug addictions and is presently facing charges for illegally obtaining a firearm by lying about his addictions.
Video footage of the president’s son acting erratically and wiping his nose while on the White House balcony with the First Family also went viral in the wake of the story.
Conservative commentator Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent, argued on Twitter on July 5 that there is no possibility that the drugs could have been brought into the White House by a visitor.
“There’s absolutely ZERO chance anyone other than a family member brought that cocaine inside the White House complex,” Bongino said. “No chance that would make it past the mag/security checkpoints. Family bypasses those.”
How Donald Trump Responded
Writing on Truth Social, the former president made it clear who he believes brought the drugs into the White House.
“Does anybody really believe that the COCAINE found in the West Wing of the White House, very close to the Oval Office, is for the use of anyone other than Hunter & Joe Biden,” Trump wrote.
The former president also risked angering the man responsible for the investigation into his alleged criminal misconduct, including the possible mishandling of classified files, by arguing he looked like a “crackhead.”
“But watch, the Fake News Media will soon start saying that the amount found was ‘very small,’ & it wasn’t really COCAINE, but rather common ground up Aspirin, & the story will vanish. Has Deranged Jack Smith, the crazy, Trump hating Special Prosecutor, been seen in the area of the COCAINE? He looks like a crackhead to me!” the former president added.
