Joe Biden Needs to Worry About Impeachment

Pressure to impeach President Joe Biden and members of his cabinet mount on the Hill. Revelations about the Biden family’s alleged corrupt business deals have Republicans talking about impeaching him.

Reps. Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene notably had a catfight on the floor of the House of Representatives over Boebert’s resolution to impeach Biden over his handling of the border.

Harvard legal scholar Alan Dershowitz warned Republicans that the Constitution only intends to impeach a president for matters like bribery or treason, or other explicitly criminal conduct, not incompetence.

Democrats like Rep. Adam Schiff who was censured for lying in the Russiagate probe sees no end to the impeachment drive.

“There’s going to be no end to this,” Schiff told The Associated Press. “Kevin McCarthy has no control over his conference,” Schiff said. ”The race to the extreme is now running the House of Representatives and of course, it’s doing terrible damage to the institution.”

Republicans Target Joe Biden and His Cabinet Members

Prior to getting to Biden, Republicans plan to spend the summer launching impeachment proceedings against cabinet members including Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, FBI Director Stephen Wray, and Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Republicans are considering hauling Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who oversaw the Hunter Biden investigation into the Judiciary Committee, as part of an investigation of whistleblower accusations that Garland interfered with the investigation.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy stated this week he plans to open an impeachment inquiry into Garland if the whistleblower’s testimony can be substantiated. Garland has denied having interfered. This marks a new phase for the GOP majority which has up until now been reluctant to impeach the president.

Mayorkas faces a five-phase investigation by the House Homeland Security Committee that will examine if he committed offenses meriting impeachment in his handling of the southern U.S. border with Mexico.

“We’re looking at all the things that they’re failing to do,” Homeland Security Secretary Mark Green told CNN. “There’s not going to be that much of a change other than we’ll dig into the actual actions of the president in conjunction with what’s happened.”

Green told CNN that his committee would also be examining Joe Biden’s role in the chaos along the border.

“I think what the House is going to do, we’re going to continue to investigate. We’re going to continue to follow this chain of evidence,” Rep. Byron Donalds, a member of the hardliner House Freedom Caucus, told CNN after the IRS whistleblower testimony was revealed. “I think the evidence is leading us to clear issues of obstruction of Justice at the Department of Justice. And with the White House.”

Democrat Who Pushed Trump Impeachment Unhappy

Democratic Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., said on the House Floor he thought the push to impeach Biden was absurd. McGovern played a key role in Donald Trump’s two impeachments.

“Yesterday, Republicans dishonored this House and dishonored themselves by bringing to the floor a ridiculous censure resolution against Adam Schiff, because Donald Trump told them to,” McGovern said last week. “Kids get shot in their classroom, nothing. Environmental disasters destroy entire communities, nothing … They have a policy disagreement with President Biden. And their first impulse isn’t, let’s pass an immigration bill, their first impulse is to impeach him.

He continued: “This body has become a place where extreme, outlandish, and nutty issues get debated passionately, and important ones not at all … In short, the Republican Party is a joke.”

Like McCarthy, Pelosi initially publicly opposed impeaching Trump but shifted as the hard-Left Socialist squad members led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez found themselves in the ascendancy.

The House as an institution has become one where the loudest and most polarized wings on both the Left and the Right wag the dog as the latest impeachment drives show.

Dereliction of duty was specifically removed from the final constitution during the debates of the 1787 Constitutional Convention as impeachment criteria. The Framers’ intent has been discarded by both parties and it’s now no-holds-barred. Impeachment has become the American equivalent of a vote of no confidence in a parliamentary democracy.
