The Marjorie Taylor Greene Disaster Is Blowing Up

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s catfight with fellow Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert over her articles of impeachment of President Joe Biden last month is costing her. The House Freedom Caucus, a small yet influential segment of the House Republican Conference, has voted to expel the Georgia lawmaker.

“The vote was taken to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Freedom Caucus for some of the things she’s done,” Freedom Caucus member Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., told reporters in the Capitol on Thursday.

Taylor Greene has sought to move from the fringes of the Republican Party’s backbench toward a more central and front-and-center role by aligning herself with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. She became a key player in the deal last January that put McCarthy, who spent the past decade and a half climbing up the ranks of the GOP leadership, into the top job.

Harris told CNN that Taylor Greene’s support for McCarthy and the debt deal contributed to her ouster.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Gets Nasty With Boebert

“I’ve donated to you, I’ve defended you. But you’ve been nothing but a little ***** to me,” Greene told Boebert, a source who witnessed the exchange told The Daily Beast. “And you copied my articles of impeachment after I asked you to cosponsor them.”

Boebert sought to escape from Greene saying, “OK, Marjorie, we’re through.” Greene replied that she and Boebert never were together.

“Marjorie is not my enemy. I came here to protect our children and their posterity. Joe Biden and the Democrats are destroying our country,” she told The Daily Beast. “My priorities are to correct their bad policies and save America.”

House Freedom Caucus Votes to Expel Greene

Reports suggest that House Freedom Caucus Chairman Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., has had multiple conversations with members since the incident about throwing Taylor Greene out of the caucus.

NBC News claims to have spoken with Republican sources inside the caucus that Perry has yet to discuss the expulsion with Greene because he wanted to do so in person. Numerous efforts were made to reach Greene prior to the expulsion vote.

“And I suspect because she knew she was being dismissed from the Freedom Caucus, and a little bit like someone refusing service from a legal standpoint … if I’m not served, then maybe it doesn’t take effect,” an unnamed member told NBC News under the condition of anonymity. “It is my understanding, yes, that Chairman Perry made multiple efforts after the fact to notify her and she refused to meet with or to speak with Chairman Perry.”

Taylor Greene had been one of the biggest fundraisers for the House Freedom Caucus’s aligned political action committee, The House Freedom Fund.

“Them voting her out doesn’t hurt her,” another Republican House source said. “The most important signal for her that demonstrates her independence is her fundraising prowess. And the HFC will miss that.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene Is Defiant

Taylor Greene remains defiant.

“In Congress, I serve Northwest Georgia first, and serve no group in Washington,” Taylor Greene said in a statement following her expulsion. “My America First credentials, guided by my Christian faith, are forged in steel, seared into my character, and will never change. I fight every single day in the halls of Congress against the hate-America Democrats, who are trying to destroy this country.”
