Third Round $1,400 Stimulus Check Still Being Distributed: The third round of COVID-19 stimulus checks has not yet been fully distributed, with parents of newborns born in 2021 still due additional $1,400 checks this year.

All it takes is filing your 2021 tax return.

How to Qualify for the Final $1,400 Stimulus Check

As we have reported previously, parents of children born in 2021 will receive an additional $1,400 stimulus check. To qualify, however, you must meet certain income requirements – and you must file your 2021 tax return first.

Single filers will need to make no more than $75,000 per year in adjusted gross income to qualify for the check. Couples filing their taxes jointly will also need to prove that they earn less than $150,000.

Earning above these amounts doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t qualify for the payment at all, but the size of the check will be reduced. If a single filer earns more than $80,000, or a couple earns more than $160,000, however, you shouldn’t expect a check.

When filing your tax return this year, use Letter 6475 from the IRS. This letter allows you to show how much money you received during the third round of stimulus payments, and if you’re eligible for an additional payment it will be distributed to you after filing your return.

Why Stimulus Check Is Late

When the IRS distributed the stimulus checks last year, they used the previous year’s tax return on file. Those tax returns didn’t include children born in 2021, meaning millions of payments are still due to be made.

It’s unclear just how many children were born in 2021, and how many parents will file their taxes and claim the checks, but it’s safe to say it is in the millions.

Other Ways You May Be Eligible For More

As we have previously reported, the chances of a fourth stimulus check are extremely slim. However, there are several ways you may be eligible for additional stimulus payments.

If you added a new dependent, including a grandchild, parent, or a foster child, to your tax return in 2021, you can claim them as a dependent and receive an additional payment.

If you are a single filer who earned more than $80,000 in 2020, but you earned less in 202, you may also qualify for an additional payment. The same is true for a married couple that earned more than $160,000 in 2020 but earned less in 2021.
