5 States Giving Out a Stimulus Check This Year – While the federal government is not considering a fresh round of stimulus checks to help Americans handle the rising cost of food, goods, and fuel, there are at least five states implementing their own stimulus check programs for this year.

Here are five of those states, and what they have planned.

Minnesota

As we previously reported, Bill HF 4625 introduced to the Minnesota legislature is expected to give taxpayers up to $1,000 in new stimulus this year. A press release from state Rep. Dan Wolgamott reveals how single filers and married taxpayers who file separate returns will receive $500 in stimulus this year, and married couples who file their taxes together will receive $1,000.

The money will be paid for with the state’s budget surplus of $9.25 billion.

“I’m proud to work with Governor Walz to put money in the pockets of Minnesotans as families cope with unprecedented rising prices and economic challenges,” Wolgamott’s office said.

New York

The state of New York will also provide a stimulus fund worth more than $2 billion this year, but it will be targeted specifically at illegal aliens. The fund, known as the Excluded Workers Fund, was approved to provide support to illegal aliens who did not qualify for federal stimulus checks issued in 2020 and 2021.

Reports suggest that money has already begun being paid out to illegal aliens who earned less than $26,208 in 2020. The program was already in place and was expanded to provide additional assistance this year.

California

While California Governor Gavin Newsom did not include stimulus checks as part of the 2022 $286 billion budget proposal, he did express willingness to implement a fresh round of “Golden State Stimulus” checks this year paid for by the state’s budget surplus.

The details of the plan, however, have not yet been announced.

Florida

Republican Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis announces in March that he would make stimulus payments to teachers and principals across the state. Some 177,000 educators across the state will be eligible to apply for a stimulus payment worth up to $1,000.

“Since day one, I have been focused on making Florida a leader in education, and I am proud to announce my proposals to invest record funding into our education system over the next year,” Governor Ron DeSantis said. “By continuing to boost teacher pay, give bonuses to principals and teachers, prioritize workforce education, foster a strong civics curriculum, and replace the FSA with progress monitoring, we’re making a significant difference in the lives of our students.”

Indiana

India residents may also qualify for a tax refund worth $125 this year, once again paid for by the state’s budget surplus. In February, state legislators voted to expand the availability of the stimulus checks. The payments will be made automatically via direct deposit or mailed checks before May 1.
