Colt Anaconda .44 Magnum – A Two-Minute Review: In general, revolvers aren’t my favorite thing in the world, but the Colt Anaconda in .44 Magnum?
It changes things.
The Colt snake series has such an incredible legacy that you can’t ignore it.
The Colt Python was an iconic part of my younger years and served as the de facto revolver of the Vietnam era and beyond. If you have even remote interest, you should definitely be looking into buying this monster of a wheel gun.

Yes, it’s pricey, but you’ll find out that it’ll be worth it. If you need more convincing, keep scrolling on.
This is one beast of a handgun too.
The .44 magnum is a smoking hot load and you can feel it with every shot you take, especially when you hear it on steel.
It’s not exactly an urban carry piece, but it’ll probably take care of you in the woods if you’re unlucky enough to need it. Outside of that, it’s truly a beautiful handgun. It still has that classic look, with some upgrades.
It offers adjustable sights, a change in material for better performance, and offers some nifty new rubber grips to help you mitigate some of the 44 Magnum recoil. If you’re one of those people that like to put scopes on revolvers, Colt has more improvements for you. The top strap is now thicker as well as drilled and tapped for all your optic mounting needs.
The Anaconda is also remarkably accurate and would be a pretty solid choice for hunting if you wanted to get into the pistol hunting game. If you get yourself some decent ammunition you’re looking at groups under 1.5 inches at 25 yards with iron sights. A
better marksman than myself could almost certainly tighten that up anymore. At further distances, my shooting ability was outpaced by the pistol, as most handguns do. I did feel like I could be more accurate with the Anaconda than my other pistols though.
Recoil is pretty heavy, but it’s not as bad as you might expect. The rubber grips don’t do anything drastic for control, but after some time you get used to it. I probably wouldn’t throw this in the hands of a brand new shooter, but a seasoned gun guy will handle this revolver just fine. And even if you can’t handle the magnum for the time being, the Anaconda also accepts the lighter 44 special round as well.
I can’t say I was surprised that I loved the Colt Anaconda. It had everything I was looking for: lots of power, a sleek design, and the old-school cool feeling of a hand cannon. Yes, it comes with a bit of a hefty price tag but when you get into guns, it comes with the territory.
If you have more than a casual interest in this gun, it’s worth your money.
