A video that has gone viral a few months back in February shows that the Ukrainian military has managed to destroy a BMPT Terminator armored fighting vehicle, one of the most advanced weapon systems the Russian forces have.

The Ukrainian forces landed the “kill” in the east of the country.

Ukrainian marines managed to incapacitate the BMPT Terminator and called in artillery fire that destroyed the Russian armored fighting vehicle.

BMPT Terminator Destroyed

The Ukrainian “kill” was made known by Sergey Haidai, the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, a few months back.

“Recently, ‘orcs’ [the derisive moniker Ukrainians use to refer to Russian soldiers] in their main TV propaganda rally boasted a tank support combat vehicle with the loud name ‘Terminator.’ So many beautiful words about the vehicle that is almost impossible to destroy. . . almost.,” the Ukrainian official said.

Haidai went on to share pictures of the destroyed BMPT Terminator and pointed out that the armored fighting vehicle was from the same unit that Russian media celebrated extensively over the past weeks.

Built on the chassis of the T-72 main battle tank, the BMPT Terminator is armed with four 9M120 Ataka missile launchers, two 30mm cannons, two grenade launchers, and a 7.62 machine gun.

“Hasta la vista, baby! Soldiers of the 140th separate reconnaissance battalion of the marines found the detonated Russian BMPT ‘Terminator,’ transferred the coordinates to the artillery units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and further adjusted the fire,” a Ukrainian military announcement on social media said.

“So, we see that this allegedly ‘invincible’ and ‘unique’ combat vehicle burns just as well as the rest of Russian scrap metal. Glory to the marines! Glory to Ukraine!” the Ukrainian marines added.

Putin Looks Desperate Using Terminator

As the war gets progressively worse for Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin are having to resort to the mystique and promise that wonder weapons bring.

In reality, however, a company of 14 BMPT Terminator armored fighting vehicles will have little impact on the fighting on the ground—as would just a company of 14 Challenger 2 or Leopard 2 main battle tanks.

To be sure, they can offer tactical advantages and sow fear into their adversaries, but their effect remains strictly tactical if there aren’t enough numbers to create or exploit vulnerabilities on the other side’s defense and thus enable an operational breakthrough.

It is likely that after the Ukrainian success, the Russian military will be quite hesitant to deploy some of its other “high-tech” weapon systems to the front lines out of fear of losing them, with the subsequent psychological and financial loss.
