In the wake of the debt ceiling deal, both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue face popular scorn.

The economy remains a prime concern for voters. At the same time, only 27% of those surveyed said they thought Speaker Kevin McCarthy was doing a good job.

Fifty-six percent said they wanted more aid for Ukraine in its fight against Russia. Seventy-three percent of Democrats said they wanted an increase in funding for Ukraine compared with 44% of Republicans.

The poll of 1,056 American adults was taken over a four-day period ending on Monday.

Polling Suggests that Biden’s Unfavorables Now Higher Than Trump

Earlier this year, Biden’s saving grace going into 2024 was that former President Donald Trump was more unpopular than he was. Multiple polls now show that has reversed despite Trump’s legal problems from the Stormy Daniels indictment in Manhattan to the pending indictments in the Mar-a-Lago documents case and Georgia.

Polling by CIVIQS found that Biden’s favorability among crucial independents stood at 27% compared with 34% for Trump.

Rasmussen’s latest tracking poll puts Trump at 50% favorability compared with 45% for Biden.

Younger Voters Cool on Joe Biden

Democrats are betting heavily on younger voters turning out for Biden in 2024. A new IBD/TIPP poll found that Biden’s approval among younger voters reflects the current national average for all Americans. His approval has fallen since September when he promised to forgive $20,000 from publicly held student loans.

It found that 40% of younger Americans approve of Biden’s job as president, and 51% of younger Americans disapprove of Biden’s handling of his office.

He also faces slight declines in approval among Democrats. The IBD/TIPP poll found that 71% of Democrats approve of Biden’s job as president compared with 74% a month ago. Meanwhile, 20% of Democrats disapprove of his job performance compared with 17% last month.

Voters Cool on Biden’s Economic Policies

Voters similarly are cool about Biden’s economic policies. Americans disapprove of his handling of the economy by a 50%-28% margin. Net approval of his handling of the economy fell to 22%, down from May when 47% disapproved and 30% supported Biden’s policies.

Among Democrats, approval for Biden’s economic policies stands at 50%-23% this month, vs. 53%-20% for last month.

“Inflation is undoubtedly a major source of Biden’s poor economic reviews. U.S. employers added more than 13.1 million jobs in the first 28 months of Biden’s presidency, Labor Department data shows. Meanwhile, the average hourly wage has grown a solid 4.3% over the past year. Yet inflation has eaten away all of that increase and more for many Americans,” Investor’s Business Daily said.

Only 22% said their wages had kept up with rising inflation.
