Don’t Let Hunter Biden Get a Pass

Perhaps we don’t need more investigations to determine who knew what and when did they know it, but we should acknowledge that past investigations did uncover some questionable business dealings made by Hunter Biden and a bulk of the Biden family.

Hunter Biden Isn’t an Elected Official – But That Doesn’t Mean He Deserves a Pass – There is an old saying, “Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean that someone isn’t actually out to get you” – in other words, sometimes a bit of paranoia is apt. A similar situation applies to that of Hunter Biden, the deeply troubled son of President Joe Biden.

There is no denying that the calls by Republican lawmakers aren’t anything but politically motivated. Much of it is likely revenge for the attempts by Democratic lawmakers to seek to conduct near-endless investigations of former President Donald Trump – which began before he even took office.

In both cases, it could be argued the investigations were politically motivated but perhaps justified.

Let’s Widen the Divide

The first question to ask is whether this is good for the country. As this reporter had suggested previously, all of these endless investigations are simply bad for the country. They’re largely unnecessary distractions that are impeding any attempts to unify and overcome our deep divide.

But there is another point to consider. The Democrats also need to accept that while Hunter Biden is not an elected official, he still rode on his father’s coattails throughout his entire life, made millions of dollars, and then didn’t pay his taxes. He broke the law and received a slap on the wrist.

Democrats have buried their head in the sand – almost to the point of ignoring anything that the younger Biden did, much like the family has done with his four-year-old daughter. In fact, the only criticism the Biden clan has received in recent weeks, following Hunter Biden receiving what has been seen as a sweetheart plea deal, is that President Joe Biden has refused to acknowledge that he has seven grandchildren.

We Know – We Just Don’t Care

Perhaps we don’t need more investigations to determine who knew what and when did they know it, but we should acknowledge that past investigations did uncover some questionable business dealings made by Hunter Biden and a bulk of the Biden family. In fact, it could be argued too that perhaps it is a smart move on the part of the Democrats to ignore anything dealing with Hunter Biden – albeit hypocrisy at its absolute worst.

“The MAGA echo chamber will continue to obsess over Hunter as they have for years, but those aren’t President Biden’s voters, and nothing changes in terms of his strategy for reelection,” veteran Democratic strategist Stephanie Cutter told the Associated Press, while suggesting the investigation is simply “not on most Americans’ radar.”

In other words, the MAGA Republicans (to use Biden’s new favorite term) will raise a stink and in the process, it could cause many Americans to get fed up from constantly hearing about it. That was certainly the case in 2020. Democrats didn’t let it become an issue. They simply didn’t address it, and hence it didn’t an issue, even as some predicted it would.

Even now as concrete evidence was reportedly found on that infamous laptop, the story only gets so much traction. With a war in Ukraine, still high inflation, record heat in the south, flooding in the northeast, mass shootings, etc. the laptop is simply old news. Most Americans do not care.

However, it could cut both ways.

The near-constant investigations of former President Donald Trump have only served to make him more popular than ever. Whereas the Democrats have ignored Hunter Biden and the investigations around him, many Republicans have acknowledged the investigations into Trump – only to counter it by claiming that is an attack to keep him out of the White House.

If the DNC wanted Trump to truly go away they’d never speak his name again – taking a cue from Harry Potter evoking “He Who Must Not Be Named.”

Unfortunately, we likely haven’t heard the last of either of these investigations. Why bother governing when you can simply take aim at the other side? Ask not what I can do for you, ask what the other side has already done.
