Devon Archer, the former best friend of Hunter Biden, could be the person who delivers a big blow to President Joe Biden.
Joe Biden Has a New Problem
According to testimony expected before Congress this week, Archer will tell lawmakers that the younger Biden would allegedly dial his then-vice president father into meetings with his overseas business partners.
The New York Post first reported on Sunday that Archer – who is currently facing jail for his role in $60 million bond fraud – is now scheduled to testify to the House Oversight Committee.
He is expected to give testimony that could shed new light on meetings he says he witnessed that were attended by Joe Biden either in person or via speakerphone.
According to Archer, Hunter would call his father and introduce him to foreign business partners or prospective investors.
The news that the 48-year-old Archer will testify was welcomed by GOP lawmakers, who have been on a mission to prove that the elder Biden took part in business dealings with his son.
Biden has repeatedly denied he was involved in any way with his son’s business.
“We are looking forward very much to hearing from Devon Archer about all the times he has witnessed Joe Biden meeting with Hunter Biden’s overseas business partners when he was vice president, including on speakerphone,” said Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), the committee chairman.
Archer had worked alongside the younger Biden at the Rosemont Seneca Partners investment firm before both of them became board members of Burisma, the Ukrainian energy company, in 2014.
In 2018, Archer was convicted in connection to a fraudulent bond scheme involving a Native American tribe, and four years later he was sentenced to over a year in prison.
Hunter Biden was reportedly paid $83,000 a month as director of the energy firm.
Will He Talk?
While it is true that the committee’s Republican lawmakers are eager to hear what Archer may have to say, the former Burisma board member, and business partner of Hunter Biden, has canceled scheduled depositions before the House Oversight Committee three times already.
“Mr. Archer’s testimony is critical to the Committee’s investigation. Mr. Archer was Hunter Biden’s business partner in a number of transactions involving foreign nationals and foreign companies,” Comer told Archer’s lawyer in a letter earlier this month.
“Mr. Archer is associated with corporate entities that the Committee has identified and the Biden family’s role in each of them. Furthermore, he has significant information regarding the purpose of these companies and knowledge of relevant documents related to the Committee’s investigation.”
What Can We Expect to Hear?
It has been reported that Archer is expected to testify that the younger Biden told fellow Burisma board members they could speak to his father on the phone.
On at least one occasion, Hunter Biden connected his father with Mykola Zlochevsky, Burisma’s owner, and Vadym Pozharskyi, a senior Burisma executive, and while they gathered around the phone, Hunter told his father that the Ukrainian businessmen “need our support.”
Hey Joe Biden?
Archer is also expected to testify that Joe Biden only spoke vaguely during the brief call to greet the two businessmen, but it would still contradict the president’s statements that he had no involvement with the business dealings.
Comer and the committee are also interested in any of these alleged communications because, at the time, Joe Biden was serving as President Barack Obama’s “point person” on Ukraine and U.S. efforts to discourage corruption.
Archer is further expected to detail other speakerphone meetings in his testimony to the House lawmakers, and these will likely include a purported dinner at a restaurant in Paris where Hunter allegedly called his father and put him on speaker to impress prospective investors.
The former BFF of Hunter Biden could also testify about two dinners the younger Biden reportedly organized for his VP father to meet business partners from Ukraine, Russia, and Kazakhstan in a private room at Georgetown restaurant and political hot spot Café Milano.
One reportedly occurred in April 2015, while another was reported to be early 2016. The New York Post had previously reported that Burisma executive Pozharskyi attended the first dinner, on April 16, 2015, along with Russian billionaire Yelena Baturina and her husband, former Moscow mayor Yury Luzhkov.
This appears to be much more than just another case of asking what the now-president knew and when he knew it. It is more about finding out the extent to which the former vice president might have been involved.
