President Joe Biden has broken his months-long silence regarding his granddaughter from scandal-plagued son Hunter and an Arkansas woman with whom he had an affair during his drug-riddled days four years ago.
President Biden’s Seventh Grandchild
President Biden said in a statement to People magazine: “This is not a political issue, it’s a family matter. Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy,” referring to the four-year-old Hunter Biden shares with Lunden Roberts, who filed a paternity suit against the president’s son in May 2019.
This statement proceeded one given to People late last week.
“Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter, preserving her privacy as much as possible going forward,” President Biden said in a statement provided exclusively to People.
This is the first time Biden has acknowledged the young girl despite her identity being known to almost everyone, including the press.
In the past, the president consistently claimed he had six grandchildren, omitting Navy from the count as well instructing aides to do the same during strategy sessions, according to the New York Times. Such outward exclusion garnered much criticism particularly from the other side of the aisle.
A person familiar with the matter claimed that Biden and his wife, Jill, were simply following his son’s lead which meant forgoing a relationship with the young girl. The elder Biden also stated he wanted to wait until after the child support dispute settlement was complete between his son and mistress before making any comments.
Republicans Chastise Joe Biden
Republicans quickly criticized Biden for staying silent even after the settlement was final in late June.
GOP Chairwoman Rona McDaniel commented in a tweet, “Biden’s refusal to recognize his own granddaughter is abhorrent and heartbreaking. Biden has no empathy.”
Ron DeSantis got in on the action and took a personal jab at Biden in a tweet. “The Harris-Biden administration is obsessed with Florida…yet they ignore the chaos at the border, crime-infested cities, economic malaise, and the military recruitment crisis.” He followed up with, “Maybe if Biden’s granddaughter moved to Florida he’d actually visit her.”
House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik from New York blasted Biden saying, “Every American knows that Joe Biden should have done the right thing years ago and acknowledged ALL of his grandchildren.”
Stefanik continued, “It is cold, heartless, selfish, and cowardly that the President of the United States can’t show love or compassion to his beautiful granddaughter. America sees this for what it is – an inexcusable disgrace.”
Many agree with Stefanik. Voters see the discrepancy between the kindly old family man Biden, as well as the press, likes to portray himself as and a grandfather who refuses to acknowledge, much less shower affection on, his seventh granddaughter as he does his other grandchildren.
Biden has bragged about his other six grandchildren and how he is “crazy about them,” noting that he speaks to them “every single day.”
Hunter’s Poor Memory
The blonde-haired little girl was conceived around December 2017 while Hunter was still in a relationship with his brother Beau’s widow, Hallie.
As if Hunter entering into a relationship with his deceased brother’s wife isn’t cringe enough, Hunter admits not remembering his, what he calls, “encounter” with Lunden Roberts.
“I had no recollection of our encounter,” Hunter wrote in his memoir about the matter. “That’s how little connection I had with anyone. I was a mess, but a mess I’ve taken responsibility for.”
Somehow, Hunter’s mea culpa doesn’t quite cut it given the improprieties in all aspects of his life, business and personal.
While parents’ compassion is, of course, crucial for any messed-up kid, Hunter Biden is a grown-up who should be held accountable for his actions and misdeeds – all of them. At this point, his father should realize him as the liability he is and stop flouncing him around important state events.
