Despite having been given the immigration policy portfolio, Vice-President Kamala Harris has done little to mitigate the ongoing crisis at America’s southwestern border.
In fact, the situation there has worsened since the Biden Administration assumed office in January 2021.
Because things have gotten so bad along the border, the governors of the various border states have started taking matters into their own hands.
Specifically, Texas’ Republican Governor Greg Abbott has opted to use his power as the chief executive of the state to deploy resources to Texas’ border with Mexico to curb the influx of illegal immigration into the Lone Star state.
Abbott is attempting to fill key parts of the Rio Grande River separating Texas from Mexico with barbed wire to deter undocumented persons from using the river to cross into Texas.
In response, Vice-President Harris, the woman charged with leading the federal effort to stop the illicit flow of undocumented migrants into the United States, has not praised Abbott’s efforts or given the besieged Texas governor a wide berth to ameliorate the crisis along his state’s border. Instead, Harris has lambasted Abbott’s actions as being “un-American.”

Sorry, Kamala Harris: Abbott is Doing What Must Be Done
Governor Abbott would not be taking these caustic actions if the federal government would simply direct its own, far greater resources into defending our southern border from what most experts describe as a human rights catastrophe and a possible national security threat (we do not know who, precisely, is coming into the country through our broken border).
The reason that Abbott is taking these actions is out of desperation.
Texas is swamped by the seemingly limitless flow of undocumented migrants entering through the state’s massive border with Mexico. The federal government, with its vast resources, could easily help these border states and avoid the seemingly extreme actions that Abbott is taking by simply deploying US military elements as well as increased Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) assets to the border.
The government, under Vice-President Harris, could finally decide to complete former President Donald Trump’s much-maligned (but very much needed) border wall to help corral the flood of humanity into checkpoints where increased numbers of CBP and US military personnel—with a greater scope of capabilities to deport that flood of humanity—would be waiting.
But that’s not on Harris’ agenda.
She wants to attack those politicians who have the gumption to protect the border. Just like all the other Democrats. And it’s part of a larger, cynical campaign strategy on the part of the Democrats as the country moves into what will undoubtedly be a miserably divisive, bitter 2024 Presidential Election cycle.
The Democrats are planning to make identity politics the centerpiece of their 2024 Presidential Campaign against the Republican candidate (right now, it’s looking like former President Donald Trump will be the GOP nominee).
Harris has already proven her worth in being the Biden Administration’s diversity czar. She has taken on the conservative Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade last year.
Now, the otherwise hapless vice-president (in terms of policy, at least) is taking on Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis’ education initiative that she is effectively arguing downplays the devastating role that slavery played in the experience of African-Americans.
Kamala Harris’ Racial Cynicism
Since 2022, Harris has also made it a constant talking point in her public appearances to ding who she describes as “MAGA governors” threatening the safety of incoming illegal immigrants by trying to shore up their state’s borders with Mexico.
Harris has made these statements while addressing Latino audiences here in the United States.
So, clearly, there is a political calculation being made by the Biden team to challenge stricter border controls being undertaken by Republican governors as being anti-Hispanic.
It is obvious that the Biden Administration, like the wider Democratic Party, wants greater numbers of illegal immigrants entering the United States.
Their calculation is that these migrants will opt to vote for Democratic Party candidates overwhelmingly because the Democrats are viewed by these groups as being pro-migrant whereas Republicans are depicted as cartoon villains opposed to the plight of the suffering migrants.
Kamala Harris, like the rest of her party, is choosing to champion a narrative divorced from reality rather than simply campaign on her record. Because Harris’ record is abysmal, she must play the race card whenever she can. It’s the only move she and the Democrats have.
Although, it remains to be seen if the Democrats’ superficial slandering of Abbott and the Republicans’ harsh stance on illegal immigration will resonate with enough Hispanic voters.
Kamala Harris Just Won’t Do the Border
After all, it was none other than the purported anti-Hispanic Donald Trump who enjoyed massive increases in support from the Hispanic community. It was Hispanics who overwhelmingly approved of Trump’s hardline stances on illegal immigration.
Regardless, Vice-President Kamala Harris is purposely refusing to seriously address the border crisis because of her party’s preference for illegal immigration.
She’s also cynically trying to convince enough Hispanic voters that the Republicans are racists, and they should vote Democratic in 2024—reelecting she and Joe Biden—so that they can defeat these sordid Republican racists.
It’s quite repulsive that an elected official would purposely choose to neglect her sworn duties because of partisan politics. But this is the America that we’re currently living in.
Let’s hope enough voters see Kamala Harris and the Democrats’ varying grotesqueries for what they are in 2024.
