Kamala Harris is the most controversial vice president since Dan Quayle held the job over 30 years ago.
Harris’ lack of charisma and knack for making herself look foolish has caused even ideological allies at The Daily Show to ridicule her.
Could she be the new Dan Qyayle?
Kamala Harris Has Issues
Quayle, like Harris, frequently was the butt of jokes for telling a schoolchild to put an “E” at the end of the word potato in a spelling contest and other flubs.
Quayle would say things like he didn’t live in this century when talking about World War II while speaking in 1988 during the 20th century.
“What a waste it is to lose one’s mind. Or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is,” Quayle said flubbing a speech before the United Negro College Fund in May 1989.
The late comedian George Carlin mocked Quayle in the early 1990s as being stupid, full of s**t, and nuts.
“Dan Quayle is all three,” Carlin mused.
If Carlin were still alive he likely would be skewering Harris like Julia Louis Dreyfus did.
Dreyfus mocked Harris in-character as Selina Meyers, the protagonist in the HBO comedy series Veep, on the Daily Show last fall. She ridiculed the real-life vice president for a speech she made at Children’s National Hospital in Washington saying: “When we talk about children of the community, they are a children of the community.” And another doozy, “I’m talking about the significance of the passage of time. Right, the significance of the passage of time. So when you think about it, there is great significance to the passage of time.”
She’s been mocked by foreign media for claiming the U.S. was in an alliance with the “Republic of North Korea.”
“Kamala. What did she just say? The U.S. shares a strong and enduring alliance with North Korea. Are you an insane person? The United States has never shared an alliance with the mad, murderous Communists of North Korea,” Sky News Australia commentator Rita Panahi said last September.
When she speaks off the cuff, her words are mocked as “word salads.”
The Problems Continue
One example came hours after being reintroduced as Joe Biden’s running mate for 2024 during a speech at Howard University in Washington, D.C. months back.
She was supposed to have urged liberals to fight Republican efforts against LGBT rights, voting rights, and abortion rights. What came out of her mouth was unintelligible.
“So I think it’s very important, as you have heard from so many incredible leaders for us at every moment in time and certainly this one, to see the moment in time in which we exist and are present, and to be able to contextualize it, to understand where we exist in the history and in the moment as it relates not only to the past but the future,” Harris said in a video shared on social media by RNC Research.
On policy issues, Harris has been panned by her boss Joe Biden and by the Republicans. Rep. Ronny Jackson introduced a resolution calling on Biden to end her role as the administration’s border czar.
“The resolution demands that a competent leader be appointed who will prioritize the safety of Americans, acknowledge that border security is national security, ensure Customs and Border Protection (CBP) receives the resources needed to execute their job effectively, and stop the flood of fentanyl pouring across our border,” a statement posted on Jackson’s congressional website said.
Democratic New York Mayor Eric Adams similarly questioned her competency in the role.
“One person should, we should be looking at — it is often stated that as the role of the VP has too much in her portfolio to be focused on just doing that decompression strategy. If not, the decompression strategy can’t be New York City,” Adams said.
Kamala Harris has become the Democrats’ Dan Quayle and the most ridiculed vice president of the 21st century. Biden’s decision to keep her should raise further questions about his own competence.
