Photographs shared online showed the kindergarten and residential buildings with huge clouds of dust and smoke emerging from them on Wednesday morning in Ukraine.
Video footage also emerged online showing a Ukrainian soldier standing outside of the kindergarten building sometime after the strike.
The footage shows the building engulfed in fire with huge clouds of smoke and dust surrounding the building.
Online geolocation experts located the building at 48.577048, 37.965881, which is in the southwestern part of the city of Bakhmut, on the eastern side of the T0504 highway.
Zaporizhzhia Hit By Strikes Overnight
Video footage also emerged on Wednesday showing the damage caused by Russian strikes in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
One clip published by Zaporizhzhia Governor Oleksandr Starukj and shared by The Kyiv Independent on Twitter showed a large crater in the ground with a fire in the center. The fire appears to be coming from a burst gas pipe.
“Zaporizhzhia Oblast Governor Oleksandr Starukh reported that Russian forces launched a missile at one of the settlements in the region. A gas distribution point was hit, and a fire broke out,” The Kyiv Independent writes on Twitter.
Starukh reportedly confirmed that the fire was put out and the strikes caused no casualties, despite being targeted at a residential area.
Ukraine Forced Into “Trench Warfare” in Bakhmut
As Russia continues to bombard Ukraine with massive missile and drone strike campaigns, soldiers in Bakhmut have resorted to engaging in trench warfare as Russian troops attempt to take control of the city.
A key, strategic territory in the Donbas region, Bakhmut remains a target for Russians following a series of major setbacks in the contested region of Ukraine.
Photographs shared online supported claims from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Monday that suggested Russia was continuing to launch attacks on the city, with battle lines having barely moved over the last few months.
The photographs show Ukrainian soldiers in hastily-dug trenches – not fitted with any supporting planks or floor planks – launching a reconnaissance drone.
Russian troops also appear to have dug the same trenches in the city. Ukraine’s Air Assault command revealed this week that the 71st Separate Hunting Brigade had been deployed to the outskirts of the city to assist soldiers pushing back against Russian assaults.
