Why Putin Loves Lauren Boebert

Russia loves using Lauren Boebert and other MAGA members of the GOP for propaganda: For years, Russian intelligence services have sought to stoke tensions within the United States. Russian trolls and bots focused on controversial topics on various social media platforms to help divide the nation. Those efforts to sow discord and divisiveness in America are part of Russia’s asymmetric assault on our democracy.

Unfortunately, some of our lawmakers and media officials are playing right along.

Just this week, Russian state TV shared images of Republican Representatives Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida refusing to clap and join in a standing ovation for Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky address to the United States Congress last week.

Russian TV host and Kremlin propagandist Dmitry Kiselyov praised the two GOP firebrands as the “brave ones” for refusing to join the applause. The state TV mouthpiece added, “They demonstratively remained seated and didn’t jump up. You can feel the fatigue in Washington over the boundless aid to Ukraine.”

Boebert has been among the most vocal Republicans in Washington, D.C. who don’t support more aid for Ukraine unless an audit is produced, ensuring money is going toward war efforts. However, her decision to ignore Zelensky’s speech and instead scroll on her phone like a spoiled teenager has become a media coup for Moscow.

Tucker Carlson – He Looks Like a Putin Supporter

Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson had become a favorite of Russian state TV even before the invasion began.

He had previously questioned why Washington would side with Kyiv over Moscow, and in recent months, clips of the host chastising the U.S. for backing Zelensky have been broadcast to millions of Russian viewers.

Those clips were aired even as protests against the mobilization of reserves began in September.

Russian media has regularly included clips from Carlson to shore up support for the illegal war in Ukraine.

In one segment, Carlson even stated that it was impossible for Ukraine actually to win the war and that peace negotiations should begin.

“It was clear, right away, that if Ukraine wanted to remain a sovereign country – and of course, all of us wanted that – Ukraine was going to have to reach some kind of negotiated settlement with Russia,” Tucker Carlson could be heard in a late summer clip.

That was, of course, before the Ukrainian military launched its offensive that has seen vast swaths of its homeland liberated.

Russia has been steadily pushed back, while the Kremlin may have lost upwards of 100,000 men and thousands of tanks.

In another clip, Carlson suggested that Biden had killed a proposed peace deal, stating, “Biden’s advisors wanted a total regime change war against Russia, apparently to avenge the election of Donald Trump, which they believe Putin was responsible for.”

Last week, the Fox News Channel host even took aim at the choice of attire that Zelensky had worn – without noting that the Ukrainian leader had traveled halfway around the world to make his speech to the United States Congress. Zelensky wears a green uniform as a show of solidarity with his troops.

“Today, the president of Ukraine arrived at the White House like the manager of a strip club and started to demand money,” Carlson said during his show last Wednesday.

Russia’s efforts to divide America seem to be working, but largely because they already have some U.S. lawmakers and TV hosts in their corner.
