Hunter Biden could face jail time if he does not cough up the financial records he was ordered to share with ex-stripper Lunden Roberts last month.
Arkansas Circuit Judge Holly Meyer ruled that Biden must appear in her Batesville, Ark. court on July 10.
Roberts’ attorney is seeking “incarceration for civil contempt until such time as the defendant fully answers discovery for a period of up to six months” and “incarceration for criminal contempt for a period of up to six months.”
Biden filed a motion in September seeking to reduce the $20,000 per month that he pays Roberts in child support due to a “substantial material change in (his) financial circumstances, including but not limited to his income.”
Roberts objected to that motion in October, thus beginning the current round of litigation.
Hunter Biden Escapes Jail In May
Hunter Biden escaped being sent to jail last month for contempt after his legal team announced it had agreed with Roberts to provide the financial documents that her lawyer Clinton Lancaster had requested.
Lancaster noted in a May 18 court filing that he had not been provided with the requested documentation of Biden’s income. Meyer ordered Biden and Roberts to each provide all requested data financial information for the discovery phase of the trial before May 12 at the last May 1 hearing.
“Mr. Biden does not want to disclose his income and assets, says that he is somewhat financially destitute, while he lives on a mountain overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Malibu, has Secret Service protection, and enjoys his time abroad,” Lancaster wrote in his May 18 filing.
Payments to Hunter Biden’s high-priced lawyers emerged as a central sticking point in that dispute that was supposed to have been resolved; however, that does not seem to have happened as Biden’s lawyers had promised. The promised information has not been provided.
Lancaster vowed to call Biden’s business partners to the stand to testify about his overseas financial dealings, which also have become a point of contention.
Roberts Seeks Name Change For Daughter
Roberts also petitioned to change her daughter Navy Joan Roberts’ surname to “Biden”. Roberts filed in December to get the Arkansas court overseeing her case to change her daughter’s name.
A 2019 paternity suit established that Hunter Biden fathered the child.
The motion noted that the child lacks her father’s name and that “the child would benefit from carrying the Biden family name, just like her father and other family members” and suggested that the Biden name would open opportunities for her. Roberts believes that changing her name would “undeniably” make it so the world knows she is Hunter Biden’s daughter and a member of the Biden family.
“That the defendant, the President, First Lady, and other members of the Biden family remain estranged from the child. To the extent this is misconduct or neglect, it can be rectified by changing her last name to Biden so that she may undeniably be known to the world as the child of the defendant and member of the prestigious Biden family,” the motion said.
Hunter Biden’s legal team has dismissed the effort as “political warfare” against their client and his family. His attorney Brett Langdon argued that Navy Joan Roberts should wait until she is older and decide for herself.
The trial has been set for July 24, at which time all of the issues will be settled.
