Hunter Biden is headed down to Arkansas. Why? To be deposed for his ongoing paternity case, which involves his daughter and the daughter’s mother, Lunden Roberts.
“Biden, who since September of last year has sought to lower his monthly child support payments to former stripper Lunden Roberts, will answer questions from Roberts’ attorneys under oath in Little Rock, Ark. On Friday,” The New York Post reported.
Biden tried to avoid going down to Arkansas – but a judge intervened. “Circuit Judge Holly Meyer issued a court order on Monday directing Biden to come to court…to be questioned by his daughter’s mother’s lawyer, Clint Lancaster, and produce his bank statements from 2013,” Business Insider reported.
Biden’s child support drama sits in amusing – and pedestrian – contrast to his other problems. Like the House Oversight Committee’s ongoing investigation into Biden’s business dealings, for example.
Yet despite the pedestrian nature of the dispute, Biden is legally bound to comply. “If Biden fails to turn up, he faces being held in contempt, which could land him in jail for up to six months a fine, up to $20,000 towards Roberts’ legal fees, and have his request in the case thrown out, the court order states,” Insider reported.
Biden had been paying $20,000 a month in child support, but has asked the judge to reduce the payment. For those of you keeping track at home, that’s $240,000 a year in child support payments. Biden initially denied paternity of the girl altogether – but has since paid $750,000 in child support.
Hunter Biden Has Serious Legal Troubles…But…
I will say that the level of scrutiny being afforded to Hunter Biden’s child custody case is a little bit odd.
Hunter Biden is a private citizen. He is not an elected official. He does not work in a capacity that supports an elected official. His character, or his romantic relationships, or his child support payments are not exactly relevant.
It’s tabloid stuff. It’s a roundabout, desperate measure to try and impeach the credibility of the president, Hunter’s father, Joe Biden. But the connection – between Hunter Biden’s child support payments to some lady named Lunden Roberts and Joe Biden, the President of the United States – is too attenuated to be taken seriously.
What I’m saying is that Hunter Biden’s child support payments don’t matter in any sort of national context. No more than what Britney Spears had for lunch today, or where Lindsay Lohan went on vacation last week.
The relevance of Hunter Biden’s child support stems from the fact that the national media has decided Hunter Biden’s child support is relevant, hence making it relevant. Do you follow that logic?
Now if Hunter Biden’s business dealings happened to have been unethical, if he happened to have made business transactions in exchange for access to his father, an elected official, then that would be newsworthy and practically consequential. But so far, despite months and months of effort to demonstrate wrongdoing, Republicans have failed to offer any substantial evidence that Hunter Biden was out of line.
Republicans, instead of focusing on Hunter Biden and who he dates or what kind of drugs he uses, should probably exert more energy into crafting a policy platform that resonates with American voters. Cause the Hunter Biden schtick isn’t going to get Republicans back in the White House.
Sidenote: Republicans have only won one presidential election popular vote since 1988 (2004). And the competition, the Democrats, are fairly atrocious themselves. Think about that.
