Vice President Kamala Harris, like her boss President Joe Biden, has a knack for putting her foot in her mouth.
Biden has done so for decades. Harris is two decades his junior, yet she, too, has a knack for either getting tongue-tied or just saying inappropriate things that make people scratch their heads.
Kamala Harris Said What?
Kamala Harris one really interesting head-scratching comment at the White House back in late March during a commemoration of Women’s History Month.
“During Women’s History Month, we celebrate and we honor the women who made history throughout history — who saw what could be, unburdened by what had been…,” Harris said. “We see the suffragists, the riveters, the marchers, the mothers and sisters and aunts and grandmothers and daughters, all the giants upon whose broad shoulders we stand.”
Numerous commentators online panned her lack of skill as an orator, calling it a “Word Salad” and asking who writes her speeches.
“Throughout history is considered by some the best time to make history,” PJ Media columnist Stephen Green wrote.
Not the First Time…
This isn’t the first time. Harris mistakenly confused America’s ally South Korea with North Korea during a stop in the Demilitarized Zone separating the two Koreas.
“So, the United States shares a very important relationship, which is an alliance with the Republic of North Korea. And it is an alliance that is strong and enduring. And today, there were several demonstrations of just that point,” Harris said in September.
Australian television commentator Rita Panahi mocked Harris on Sky News Australia asking, “Kamala. What did she just say? The U.S. shares a strong and enduring alliance with North Korea. Are you an insane person? The United States has never shared an alliance with the mad, murderous Communists of North Korea.”
Former U.S. Ambassador Alberto Fernandez similarly ridiculed Harris’ comment tweeting, “Diplomacy is back, baby. Evidently we switched sides in Korea under the Biden Administration and nobody told us. Unlike her boss, she can’t claim old age as a defense.”
Yikes…
The Daily Show on Comedy Central found much to laugh at when it came to Harris’ oratory skills last Fall in its reboot of HBO’s series “Veep” starring Julia Louis Dreyfus, who lampooned her in character as Selina Meyers. Among the comments Dreyfus mocked included Harris’ comment made at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., saying, “When we talk about children of the community, they are a children of the community.” And another doozy, “I’m talking about the significance of the passage of time. Right, the significance of the passage of time. So when you think about it, there is great significance to the passage of time.”
Harris’ entire term has been filled with similar gaffes. In 2021, the Los Angeles Times noted that Harris praised President Biden’s decision to pull out of Afghanistan without a plan. Not only that, she took responsibility for the decision herself.
“The decision always rests with him,” she said, “but I have seen him over and over again make decisions based exactly on what he believes is right.”
Harris’ rhetorical missteps compound Biden’s, but unlike her boss, she can’t claim senior memory issues. It makes the Biden administration look lost and confused. Such miscues likely are being examined in Moscow, Tehran, and Beijing as evidence of an America in decline.
