The GOP Is Melting Down over Hunter Biden

The five-year-long saga of the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden, the president’s son, appears to be over. And the GOP is angry.

Conservatives react negatively to Hunter Biden plea deal: The president’s son has reached an agreement to plead guilty to tax and gun crimes, in a deal that’s unlikely to lead to jail time.

The politicians who have been railing against him for years aren’t happy.

Hunter Biden – No Jail and GOP Is Losing It

The five-year-long saga of the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden, the president’s son, appears to be over.

News is breaking Tuesday morning that the younger Biden has agreed to a plea agreement with the government.

Under the terms of the deal, which was struck with Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney David Weiss, Hunter Biden has agreed to plead guilty and receive probation for a case in which he filed his taxes late while avoiding a charge that he lied while filing a gun permit application. The president’s son is likely to avoid any prison time under the deal; no charges had been announced prior to the announcement of the deal.

For the conservative politicians and pundits who have spent the last several years treating him like one of the world’s leading criminal masterminds, the reaction has been a severe disappointment, if not anger.

“Let’s be clear: the Department of Justice’s charges against President Biden’s son Hunter reveal a two-tiered system of justice,” Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said in a statement. The Committee has spent much of the year so far looking into the financial records of Hunter and other family members, in order to pursue a questionable narrative about a “Biden Crime Family.”

“Hunter Biden is getting away with a slap on the wrist when growing evidence uncovered by the House Oversight Committee reveals the Bidens engaged in a pattern of corruption, influence peddling, and possibly bribery. These charges against Hunter Biden and sweetheart plea deal have no impact on the Oversight Committee’s investigation. We will not rest until the full extent of President Biden’s involvement in the family’s schemes are revealed.”

“Hunter Biden pleading guilty to a gun charge and misdemeanor tax charges with no jail time is a  stunt to make him look like he is just cooperating with the DOJ,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), also a member of the Oversight Committee, said on Twitter.

“Meanwhile the pathetic and weaponized DOJ who protects their puppet President and refuses to prosecute Joe Biden and Hunter for taking bribes from Ukrainian oligarchs and raking in tens of millions of dollars from foreign countries bc the Big Guy makes policy decisions to be help his customers are the real crimes the Biden’s should be charged with.” She went on to accuse the Justice Department of “trying to throw President Trump in jail for 100 years for legally possessing documents he’s allowed to posses under the Presidential Records Act.”

“It’s no coincidence that less than a week after President Trump is arraigned by the DOJ, Hunter Biden is pleading guilty to a sweetheart deal with no jail time,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) said on Twitter, although it is, in fact, more likely than not a coincidence.

The New York Post, which has led the way on reporting about Hunter Biden, illustrated its news story with multiple nude photos of the president’s son, taken from his laptop. In one of them, he is holding a handgun, although it’s unclear if it’s the same firearm that’s connected to the charges.

The charges, per the paper, “amount to a slap on the wrist at the conclusion of a five-year investigation into the 53-year-old that has focused on money he received from overseas business interests.”

Even Donald Trump weighed in

“People are going wild over the Hunter Biden Scam with the DOJ!,” he said on Truth Social.

Of course, not everyone reacted to the news that way.

“The Hunter Biden plea is the John Durham investigation all over again,” commentator Nicholas Grossman said on Twitter. “The Biden White House and Garland DOJ leaders stood aside—as appropriate, can’t have bias—while Trump-appointed prosecutors took their best shots at validating right-wing conspiracy theories, and failed badly.”
