Did Joe Biden ‘Fall Asleep’ During the NATO Summit?

A conservative blogger was wrong when it came to President Joe Biden supposedly dozing during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at last week’s NATO Summit.

Benny Johnson posted on his Facebook page a poor-quality video taken from a distance and presented it in a way that made it seem that the president was nodding off.

“We’re at this historic summit meeting. We’re resolving a lot of things, I hope. And you made, you made (it) all the more historic by the agreement you reached yesterday in the admission of Sweden and how you’re going to proceed.  I want to thank you for your diplomacy and your courage to take that on.  And I want to thank you for your leadership, Mr. President,” Biden said. “This summit is reaffirming our commitment to NATO defense with close allies in NATO, and I hope we can make it even stronger.”

On Twitter, Johnson wrote, “Foreign leaders left STUNNED after Joe Biden falls ASLEEP mid-summit, cancels meetings.” Fox News host Laura Ingraham picked up the episode and opined, “That’s your president.”

A close look shows Biden looking at notes in his lap and that he clearly had not rehearsed what he was supposed to say during the meeting.

Johnson Claims Biden Incapable of Performing the Duties of His Office

“Everyone knows the Biden regime is in nightmare collapse. It is getting worse than even you could imagine. There are new whistleblowers with evidence that nobody’s ever seen before,” Johnson said. “He’s skirting off to Europe and can’t even go to a meeting of NATO leaders because he’s too tired from four straight days of hard work.”

Johnson continued: “They are hiding the fact that Joe Biden is incapable of performing the duties of the office.”

White House Explains Biden’s Non-Attendance at Dinner

The White House explained Biden’s absence at the official dinner of NATO leaders saying that he needed to attend to domestic business.

“It was a social dinner amid four days of official business and the president had domestic business to attend to, including calling the governor of Vermont to discuss extreme flooding,” a spokesperson told USA Today, referencing the catastrophic rain and flooding affecting the state. “He also had prep for the second day of the summit and a major speech the following night.”

Not the First Time Biden Accused of Napping

This was not the first time that Biden was accused of napping during an official state function.

In 2021 Biden was accused of falling asleep amid speeches at the COP26 Conference in Glasgow, Scotland. The president could be seen closing his eyes during one of the speeches until an aide came up to him.

“What’s your role on the trip, random intern? ‘Well, I go and wake up the president every time he falls asleep,’” Daily Wire editor Ian Haworth tweeted at the time.

Then in August of that year, Biden was accused of falling asleep during a meeting with then-Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett based on an edited video.

Joe Biden says and does enough ridiculous things on his own. There’s no reason to try and sway popular opinion with things that can easily be shown to be false.
