Joe Biden Relents to Pressure & Acknowledges Granddaughter – President Joe Biden has given in to mounting political pressure from people in both parties to acknowledge his innocent 4-year-old granddaughter Navy Joan Roberts.
“Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter, preserving her privacy as much as possible going forward,” Biden said in a statement to People Magazine. “This is not a political issue, it’s a family matter … Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy.”
The president acknowledged the resolution of the long, drawn-out paternity and child support case between his son Hunter Biden and Navy’s mother, Lunden Roberts. An unnamed source told People that the president and the First Lady have stayed behind the fray because they wanted to let the legal case between Hunter Biden and Lunden Roberts play out.
“Thousands of families have faced similar circumstances, working it out in private, versus the spotlight,” the source says. “At the center is a 4-year-old girl and everyone wants what is best for her, including all of her grandparents.”
Joe Biden Faced Bipartisan Backlash
Biden faced bipartisan backlash over his failure to acknowledge Navy.
Liberal New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd called out the president last month for failing to acknowledge the little girl. The circumstances of her birth were not her fault. Dowd called on the president to move beyond politics.
The political embarrassment surrounding the circumstances of her birth and that she was born out of a short relationship between Hunter Biden and former Washington, D.C. stripper Lunden Roberts should have nothing to do with her, Dowd argued.
“Joe Biden’s mantra has always been that “the absolute most important thing is your family.” It is the heart of his political narrative. Empathy, born of family tragedies, has been his stock in trade. Callously scarring Navy’s life, just as it gets started, undercuts that,” Dowd writes. “As Katie Rogers, a Times White House correspondent, wrote in a haunting front-page piece last weekend about Hunter’s unwanted child, Biden is so sensitive ‘that only the president’s most senior advisers talk to him about his son.’ Rogers said that ‘in strategy meetings in recent years, aides have been told that the Bidens have six, not seven, grandchildren.’ Jill Biden dedicated her 2020 children’s book to the six grandchildren.
Dowd continued: “What the Navy story reveals is how dated and inauthentic the 80-year-old president’s view of family is.”
Ron DeSantis Slams Joe Biden Over Granddaughter
Republican presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis took a potshot at Biden, reminding him that Navy was his granddaughter and that he should pay attention to her.
“The only reason you wouldn’t want the parents involved is because you worry the parent would represent an impediment to you imposing your agenda on someone else’s kids,” DeSantis said at an event in Orlando Wednesday. “When Biden says they’re not your kids, they’re all of our kids — that is what he means.”
DeSantis continued, “Now he’s not talking about visiting his granddaughter in Arkansas or even acknowledging she exists — but never, never mind that.”
