Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene Could Get Into ‘Fistfight’

Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republicans from Colorado and Georgia, respectively, seemed destined to keep mixing it up. But how far could it go?

Two of the most high-profile, and least impressive, members of the House of Representatives are embroiled in a feud. Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republicans from Colorado and Georgia, respectively, seemed destined to keep mixing it up. But how far could it go?

One colleague speculated that the feud had the potential to descend into a “fistfight.” Hyperbole I’m sure but it sounds plausible doesn’t it? I could see Boebert and MTG duking it out in some honky-tonk bathroom over the rights to some guy with Skoal stains running down his shirt. Right? Something like that?

Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene: The Feud

“Once considered allies in the House GOP’s further-right caucus, Boebert…and Greene…have seemingly been engaged in a feud since finding themselves on opposing sides of the intra-party fight over electing Kevin McCarthy as House speaker,” Newsweek reported. You remember that little ditty, I’m sure. The GOP melt-down last January. Boebert held out bitterly, ‘til the end. MTG played moderate broker, getting Trump on the phone to talk her Freedom Caucus associates off the ledge. It was a mess. And apparently, there are some lingering hard feelings.

“Last month, Greene reportedly called Boebert a “little *****” on the House floor over public comments made about [Greene],” Newsweek reported. MTG “also accused Boebert of copying articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden that [MTG] previously filed.” Boebert denied the charges.

“A fistfight could break out at any moment,” Representative Tim Burchett told The Daily Beast. Burchett added that he was enjoying the altercation as a “professional wrestling fan.”

“I am friends with both of them. It’s entertaining to think that a fistfight could break out at any moment. I kind of dig that.” And that sentiment right there speaks to a greater trend and a larger problem. American politics have descended into something that has been referred to as “angertainment.” It’s a noxious blend of reality television, paired with messaging designed to make the blood boil. The combination has proven addicting and the outcome is an increasingly partisan, increasingly congested political system. It’s not really funny. Congress isn’t supposed to be professional wrestling. Congress is supposed to be congress.

And it’s no surprise that Lauren Boebert and MTG are at the center of this thing. No one personifies angertainment more than Boebert and MTG. Boebert is a conspiracy theorist who rose to prominence screeching about how Democrats were coming for ‘yer guns.

MTG is a conspiracy theorist who rose to prominence blogging about how Democrats were coming to sacrifice ‘yer children. Individually and collectively, they are both reprehensible. They make Matt Gaetz look like a gentleman scholar. They are “observably stupid.” They degrade the quality of the United States Congress simply through their presence.

Addressing the Feud

“Boebert didn’t deny the tense exchange with Greene on the House floor, telling The Daily Beast last month: ‘Marjorie is not my enemy. I came here to protect our children and their posterity. Joe Biden and the Democrats are destroying our country. My priorities re to correct their bad policies and save America.’”

Green, meanwhile, said that the altercation was “unfortunate.”

“Well, you know, I find it unfortunate that Lauren Boebert leaked that conversation that we had to the press. But once she leaked it out, I had to confirm that that’s, in fact, what I said.”

Whatever. I’m not registered to vote in either Colorado or Georgia but I’d encourage voters in both states to consider electing alternative representation.
