Marjorie Taylor Greene Went Too Far This Time

The snickering, sneering, and downright mortified faces of the congressional staff surrounding Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) says it all as the controversial congresswoman cautioned audiences that viewer discretions would be advised for the “evidence” she was about to present to the House Oversight Committee that is presently investigating the First Son, Hunter Biden.

Next, she revealed explicit images of the First Son taken from his personal laptop and printed out in large poster-sized images for all to see Hunter’s depravity on display.

Hunter Biden On Display

The only problem is that the purpose of the House Oversight investigation into Hunter Biden isn’t about Hunter Biden’s depravity.

It’s not even really about Hunter.

He’s simply the means to an end.

The end is about determining whether the junior Biden’s alleged criminal behavior can be linked to that of his father, the President of the United States.

It’s important for the public to understand that Hunter Biden’s depravity is what led to his potential criminal behavior, which may implicate his father.

But there’s a tightrope that the Republicans must walk that Marjorie Taylor Greene just fell from.

Because whatever one may think of Hunter Biden, the fact remains that most Americans do not view Hunter as a stand-in for his father. The Republicans have a long way to go before they can prove the linkage – which you and I both know is there. The last thing the GOP needs to do is to be seen as bullying a drug addict for political purposes.

After all, the Democrats have no viable defense against this investigation other than playing on the heartstrings of the American people.

This was precisely what Biden did throughout the 2020 Presidential Election whenever the issue of his controversial son was brought up in public.

Hunting Poor Old Biden

Biden played the aggrieved father who just wanted his ill son to get better while vicious Republican Party partisans used Hunter Biden’s illness as a cudgel against Joe Biden.

As I’ve said, I believed these were crocodile tears. But that line of defense that Joe Biden and the Democrats routinely rely upon works.

Republicans must be cautious when pursuing Hunter Biden. Stick to the issue, not becoming distracted by the various images of sexual indiscretions that can be found on his laptop.

During the impeachment of President Bill Clinton, most Americans were supportive of the initial Republican efforts to unseat a morally bankrupt president. The Republicans then gradually lost that support over time and even experienced Clinton’s popularity increase in the aftermath of their disastrous impeachment attempts of Bill Clinton for his lying under oath about his lude relationship with intern Monica Lewinsky.

What should have been a slam dunk for the GOP, then, was taken down by the perception in the public that the GOP were out-of-control jerks.

It’s the same strategy modern Democrats are employing against the GOP. It’s not as effective as it was in the 1990s because the circumstances are different. Although, it is still effective. All the Democrats need to do is sow enough doubt in the minds of enough voters going into 2024 to blunt the Hunter Biden attacks coming from the Right.

MTG’s caustic displays of Hunter Biden’s deviancy may tickle the Far Right but what purpose does it serve other than to possibly inspire unintended sympathy in the hearts of most moderate voters who might be witnessing the madness?

The goal should be to make them hate Joe Biden as the kleptocrat that is. Not to make them hate you as his inquisitor for going after his drug-addict son. Few people remember that there really was a Red Menace in the 1950s. Most recall only that Sen. Joseph McCarthy (R-WI) was far too draconian, blunt, and unsympathetic in his dogged pursuit of suspected communists in our midst back then.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Takes it Too Far

MTG entered government service as a lightning rod. Over the last few years that she’s been in Washington, the Georgia congresswoman has clearly moderated herself—to a point. She still knows how to get headlines. Yet, Marjorie Taylor Greene has proven herself to be a useful weapon against the Left when deployed properly.

Sadly, she is still rough around the edges.

The recent Hunter Biden display shows it. Yes, she got headlines and we’re all talking about the stunt—and her. No, it’s not going to convince anyone or even slightly help to uncover any probable linkages between Hunter Biden’s alleged criminal activities and his father.

Republicans must forge ahead with their investigation. But they cannot lose the public on this one, because it’s going to take time to prove linkages between Hunter Biden’s allegedly illegal international influence peddling schemes and his father. Patience will be key.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is the wrong face for a patient campaign. She simply goes too far.
