What Is Going on with Joe Biden and His Dogs? They say you can tell a lot about a man by how he treats his dog. German Shepherds aren’t intrinsically a breed that bites people anymore than most breeds despite the stereotype, yet Joe Biden has had two vicious members of the breed in the White House.
“You can tell a lot about a man by how he treats his dogs” R.L. Maizes wrote in The New York Times.
Dogs can become aggressive if they are either abused or neglected, animal behaviorists say. German Shepherds are well-known for their intelligence and have been used as guide dogs for blind people for almost a century. Such animals are known for their docility.
Secret Service Members Take Bites for the President
Secret Service members are supposed to take bullets for presidents, not take bites from their German Shepherds. Joe Biden’s first dog, Major, was sent back to Delaware in 2021 after he sunk his teeth into a Secret Service officer.
Secret Service documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch showed that President Joe Biden’s second loyal pooch, Commander, has a similar knack for sinking his teeth into his security detail.
“Commander squeezed his way through the door and immediately bit/latched onto the lower right side of my back,” a Secret Service agent wrote of a harrowing encounter with the dog at the president’s Delaware home.
On another occasion, Commander lunged at as Secret Service officer, biting him while not breaking the skin.
“At approximately 0706 hours, ERT Officer-Tech was involved in an incident involving the Family pet. While the Family pet was out for their morning walk, the dog jumped on Ofc-Tech and “bite” at arm/wrist area. did not suffer any injuries. The incident was reported to me by Lt in the JOC and said that the ERT supervisor would be pushing notifications up as well,” the document said in an Oct. 5, 2022 entry.
Then on Jan. 2, 2023 the FOIA document notes, “Happy New Year and good afternoon. One of our TLEs working at the Wilmington residence was bitten by the protectee’s dog this morning around 1100.”
In a November entry, “If it wasn’t their dog he would have already been put down – freaking clown needs a muzzle.”
Does Joe Biden Treat Dogs Like People?
If Joe Biden treats his dogs like he treats people, there’s little wonder why the Secret Service fears his little terror dogs. Last month Axios reported in a piece titled “Old Yeller” that the president was known for his quick temper and profanity-laced tirades.
Jeff Connaughton, a former Biden campaign and Senate aide, told Axios that Joe Biden was an “egomaniacal autocrat … determined to manage his staff through fear.”
He recalled that the president “hides his sharper edge to promote his folksy Uncle Joe image — which is why, when flashes of anger break through, it seems so out of public character.”
One dog terrorizing the Secret Service is a fluke. Two dogs resorting to similar violent behaviors can’t be chalked up to the fact they were both German Shepherds. Dogs do not become aggressive unless they are either neglected or abused in some manner.
You can tell a lot about a man by his dog.
