Is Joe Biden Running in 2024? That’s a Dumb Question

You Bet Joe Biden Is Running: Multiple media outlets have started to look for “clues” from President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address earlier this week as to whether he will seek reelection.

Even those who don’t follow politics should know already that Biden is planning a run. ‘

It isn’t unusual for a first-term president to wait until after the second SOTU to formally announce a reelection bid – and for a good reason, as it is better to tout any accomplishments as the president, not a candidate.

“This has always, always been our plan. State of the Union first, candidate later,” a source close to the administration told CBS News in January.

It was clear, however, that the SOTU was essentially a de facto launch of Biden’s reelection campaign, as he noted multiple times, “Let’s get the job done.”

That was as much a call to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives to find common ground to pass his agenda, as it was to the American people that he should be given a second term.

Joe Biden: Accentuate the Positive

Any SOTU is about highlighting accomplishments while downplaying failures the administration has faced.

There was little mention of inflation, nothing said about the classified documents found in Biden’s private office or home, student loan forgiveness, the Chinese surveillance balloon or the White House’s slow response to it, and notably the Republican investigations into his family.

Biden made sure to hype the strong job numbers, even if the pandemic layoffs actually began under former President Donald Trump.

At the same time, Joe Biden also failed to mention the recent tech sector layoffs.

It was the usual pep rally-style event of most State of the Union addresses, and only once did Joe Biden seem to lose control of the room – when Republicans booed him, suggesting they held the national economy hostage to secure unpopular cuts to social security and Medicare.

However, Biden isn’t a great speaker.

He is known for colorful and, at times, humorous gaffes, while he regularly embellishes stories (or arguably outright tells lies), and he stumbles over words big and small.

At times angry, at others smug and condescending (“listen folks”), Joe Biden laid out why he believes he is owed a second term.

Biden Knows He Can Win

There is no denying that “Blue Collar Joe,” who headed to Wisconsin on Wednesday in what was described as a “victory lap” to talk to union workers, has essentially begun his reelection bid. The speech to the Laborers Union at a union training school north of Madison was all but a campaign stop.

“I’ve said many times, Wall Street did not build this country. The middle class built this country. And unions built the middle class,” Biden told the audience to rousing applause, the Wisconsin Examiner reported. “And by the way, now you’re rebuilding the country.”

The visit may have been to highlight infrastructure projects around the country, but certainly, it had the makings of a campaign visit to what was once a deep blue state that went for Trump in 2016. Wisconsin and other “rust belt” states – part of the “blue wall” for Democrats – remain vital for Biden to be reelected.

Of course, Biden is running again. In his mind, there is work yet to be done, and only Blue Collar Joe Biden can get it done.
