Hunter Biden May Finally Pay for His Mistakes

Hunter Biden’s attorneys met this week with Department of Justice prosecutors to see what charges were being considered against the president’s son.

According to CNBC, the charges are as follows: “prosecutors have considered charging Hunter with four criminal counts…including two counts of misdemeanor failure to file taxes. The third charge would be a felony count of tax evasion in connection with a business expense. The fourth charge would be a felony related to an alleged false statement related to a gun purchase in 2018, when Hunter wrote on a form that he was neither addicted to nor abusing any unlawful substance.”

Now, Alan Dershowitz is offering his takeaways from the meeting via Fox News.

Dershowitz is a former Harvard Law professor who defended Trump during his first impeachment (and who also contributed to O.J. Simpson’s criminal defense).

Dershowitz weighs in on Hunter Biden

“It was the Biden people who sought the meeting, which means they’re probably in a negotiating mode. People don’t seek meetings just for a status report or an update, you can do that on the phone. When you bring in a group of lawyers to talk to people in the Justice Department, it’s generally part of a negotiation,” Dershowitz said.

Looking ahead as the investigation unfolds, Dershowitz stated his belief that “the biggest hypocrisy” with respect to law and justice will come from the “left,” especially academia and the media.

“I’m a liberal Democrat who voted against Trump,” Dershowitz said. “The hypocrisy of the academics and the media left is beyond even imagination, and there’s nobody out there defending civil liberties.”

Dershowitz continued: “Not the American Civil Liberties Union, not the usual people in the academy, not The New York Times, not any of the liberal establishment. And for me, as a liberal, as a person who just defended the rights of liberals for 60 years of my life, the idea that they’re not turning into McCarthyites…is so disappointing.”

Dershowitz has a point. Civil liberties are not in fashion right now. Democrats have not been great on civil liberties lately, have they. (Like on free speech, for example, case and point, AOC went on Jen Psaki’s show recently and said that Fox News should be removed from the air.) The ACLU, who spent a generation making sure everyone (even full-blown Nazis) had their rights preserved, has relinquished their role as civil liberty defender in favor of something more political. Right now, the ACLU’s primary mission seems to be making sure transgender women are allowed to play sports with other women, which is fine if that’s what you want to do, but that’s not exactly the ACLU’s historic mission; it’s not exactly important to a wide segment of the population, and it’s clearly a political thing, not a civil liberty thing.

Then there’s the mainstream media. Dershowitz has a point there, too. Outlets like CNN and MSNBC and The New York Times and The Washington Post operate more like an extension of the Democratic administration than any objective upholder of civil liberties.

Anyways, keep an eye on the Hunter Biden investigation. The DOJ investigation has the potential to result in criminal charges. The House Oversight’s separate investigation, led by Representative James Comer, has no legal authority but could cause a political headache for the Biden administration.
