I’ve heard many of whom some may consider more traditional Republicans say they voted for Joe Biden simply because they could not stomach another four years of Trump.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about those conversations, wondering: if those people could do it all over again, would they?
I can understand why even a conservative may have voted for Biden in 2020 given the alternative. However, I’m sure they’ve experienced days of regret, head in hand, wondering how it all went so wrong.
I didn’t believe the past three years could have ever gone right under Biden’s leadership, but I couldn’t predict just how utterly terrible they would be.
Following is my list of Biden’s top mistakes since he took office. Granted, this tally could be much grander, but so as not to completely depress you, it’s truncated. I also polled a few friends on both sides of the aisle to ensure I got a balance of perspectives.
It turns out Biden’s performance is the only truly bi-partisan issue out there right now.
Foreign policy. From Afghanistan to the border, China to Ukraine, President Biden has botched so many critical decisions, this fact deserves its own top ten list.
He has damaged relationships with foreign adversaries as well as friends around the world and weakened the U.S.’s stance against great world powers, namely China and Russia.
Our border is on the verge of complete collapse and it would be hard to find someone who still considers America to be the “shining city upon the hill” that John Winthrop, Ronald Reagan, and so many other great leaders envisioned.
Mandating COVID-19 vaccinations for the military. This was not a smart move for an institution that is already struggling to find qualified and fit young people to join its ranks. According to a report in the Military Times, over 8,300 troops from the active and reserve components were discharged because they refused the vaccination.
While the Secretary of Defense dropped the mandate in January of this year, it set a precedent that medical choices can be punished, not something likely to entice freedom-loving recruits to enlist.
All the Presidents’ men/women and anything in between. Joe Biden was so concerned about building a diverse, gender-neutral/fluid cabinet that he forgot these appointments are crucial positions that require qualified and responsible adults.
Not children who steal luggage for women’s attire.
Or a press secretary that doesn’t do much more than consult her binder.
Or a transportation secretary who failed to demonstrate any leadership or concern for the victims of the East Palestine train derailment.
Strong leaders appoint capable, skilled, and prudent delegates that reflect the direction of the executive office.
Although, when you don’t have a vision for the country, knowing who to hire to execute it becomes more challenging.
Dividing the country. One of the biggest promises Joe Biden made to America at his inauguration was to bridge the ever-widening partisan divide in this country. “Today, on this January day, my whole soul is in this: Bringing America together. Uniting our people. And uniting our nation,” he said on January 20, 2020.
This should tell us something about the condition of his soul. As president, Joe Biden has done nothing but expand the gap between left and right.
He continues to alienate half of the country by calling those who don’t agree with his dystopian vision extremists, domestic terrorists, and a “clear and present danger.” Oh, progressives – the beacons of peace and tolerance.
Inviting Dylan Mulvaney to the White House. I understand this is not going to make any intellectual or policy wonk’s top five or even ten lists. Nor will it get everyone’s goat as much as it does mine. However, as a woman who has struggled to find how and where she fits in the world and worked her butt off to achieve some modicum of success, watching the White House and the highest office in the nation praise and acknowledge a boy for simply dressing and acting like a girl is infuriating. How all women, no matter their sexual preferences, size, or role are not equally enraged is beyond me.
Obviously, I didn’t touch the economy, the exorbitant infrastructure bill, destroying America’s energy independence, or the plethora of other terrible, horrible, no good, very bad decisions Biden has made during his presidency.
I am sure there is no shortage of historians currently amassing pages for the multi-volume account of Joe Biden’s time in office. Let’s just hope America doesn’t give them a reason to add more chapters come 2024.
