What Did Joe Really Know? – President Joe Biden offered a one-word response on Monday when asked at a White House event whether he ever lied about his involvement in his son’s business affairs. Fox News White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich asked the president directly, “Did you lie about never speaking with Hunter about his business deals?”
The response was a simple yet direct, “no.”
Heinrich followed up asking, “Did you ever speak with Hunter about his business deals?”
The president offered no response.
As previously reported, throughout the 2020 Presidential Election, Joe Biden insisted that he had no direct involvement with any of the illicit international business dealings that his wayward son, Hunter Biden, had been engaged in. Evidence suggests that isn’t quite so true.
Moreover, a statement from the White House counsel’s office offered a slightly different take, as Ian Sams, White House spokesperson explained, “As we have said many times before, the president was not in business with his son.”
Being in business is still very different from discussing business.
Joe Biden Doesn’t Lie – Does He?
It would be easy to accept Biden’s simple and direct answer to a reporter’s question was he not known to lie with disturbing regularity.
As the Poynter Institute’s Politifact noted, Biden was called out as recently as last week when he said “We have plans to build a railroad from the Pacific all the way across the Indian Ocean.”
That was likely just a Biden gaffe – a misstatement, not an outright lie.
Yet, Biden also offered several questionable facts in recent months, including “More cops are killed responding to domestic violence calls than anything else,” while he also claimed that the “average tax” for billionaires is “about 3 percent” and is lower than a schoolteacher or a firefighter.
It was also this month that Biden again made questionable statements about the Second Amendment, including the repeatedly debunked claim that “you couldn’t buy a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed.”
Throughout his political career, Joe Biden has told so many lies and made so many questionable claims that it is simply impossible to accept his direct answer to a reporter’s question.
In an op-ed, The Los Angeles Daily News even suggested “Joseph Biden has been a notorious fabulist, which is to say, a well-documented liar even by the standard of fellow politicians.”
Hunter Biden Accepted a Plea Deal
The White House has also largely been silent after the president’s son Hunter Biden accepted a Department of Justice (DoJ) plea deal that would see him avoid prison time. As part of the deal, Hunter Biden will plead guilty to two misdemeanor charges stemming from failure to file and pay income taxes, while a charge for unlawfully purchasing a firearm and lying on the application will also be dismissed.
Many Republicans have expressed ire that Hunter Biden didn’t receive a harsher punishment, and some have alleged that the president may have intervened on his son’s behalf to get him a “sweetheart deal” to even keep him out of prison.
The administration has also denied having a part in the investigation of Hunter Biden. But does anyone actually believe it?
