Hunter Biden’s lawyer hits Trump with cease-and-desist: After months of social media posts in which the former president has ripped and made insinuations about the former president’s son, attorneys for Hunter Biden has filed a legal letter
Hunter Biden Fires Back at Donald Trump
There’s a very, very good chance that the 2024 general election will end up being about the wrongdoing of one candidate (former President Donald Trump) and the wrongdoing of the son of the other candidate (Hunter Biden.) These may not be symmetrical things, but that’s how they’re shaping up.
That, it appears, is the way a lot of the conservative media and establishment would like for it to shake out, with the travails of the president’s son the primary focus of both Congressional investigations and conservative media.
Former President Donald Trump himself has been a big part of the piling on, using his Truth Social account to frequently make insinuations about Hunter and decry “double standards,” whether it’s about Hunter’s tax case or the White House cocaine discovery.
Now, attorneys for Hunter Biden have written a cease-and-desist in response.
According to ABC News, attorney Abbe Lowell, who represents Hunter Biden, has written the letter to Trump’s attorneys, stating that Trump’s rhetoric “could lead to [Hunter Biden’s] or his family’s injury.”
It can be difficult to keep straight who is representing Trump at any given time, but the letter is addressed to Todd Blanche, Christopher Kite, Joseph Tacopina, and Susan Necheles.
“I am sending this letter to make a demand that your client, former President Donald Trump, cease and desist from making public statements about my client which are both defamatory and likely to incite Mr. Trump’s followers to take actions against Mr. Biden and which could lead to his or his family’s injury,” the letter says.
The letter also made a dig at Trump’s past indictments.
“I am a little surprised to have to send this because it would seem that Mr. Trump is currently facing enough legal problems that he would not want to create any more liability for saying and doing things that could result in harm and injury, and because it appears you have enough to do in defending your client in various arenas now and yet to come than to have to deal with one more legal issue and case.”
The letter also mentioned Trump’s bizarre recent reference to a “death sentence” that Hunter Biden did not receive — rather than a “traffic ticket” — in his recently announced deal with federal prosecutors.
Lowell — a longtime Washington power lawyer who, among many other powerful clients, once represented Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump — cited other times when rhetoric from Trump has led to real-life violence, attempted or carried out. This included the January 6 attack, the violent attack on Paul Pelosi, and a man who was recently arrested with weapons near the home of former President Barack Obama, shortly after Trump had posted what he said was Obama’s home address.
“This is not a false alarm,” the attorney wrote. “We are just one such social media message away from another incident, and you should make clear to Mr. Trump — if you have not done so already — that Mr. Trump’s words have caused harm in the past and threaten to do so again if he does not stop.”
The attorney also addressed the notion, frequently alleged by Trump and others, that the bag of cocaine found at the White House must have belonged to Hunter Biden.
“You know, if Mr. Trump does not, that Mr. Biden has neither committed nor been accused of the charges that your client is claiming … and that the Biden family was not at the White House (let alone in the vestibule) in the period when the cocaine was found,” Lowell said in the letter.
The attorney went on to ask that the former president’s attorneys convey to Trump that “his incitement can further hurt people and cause himself even more legal trouble.”
