The Two Faces of Joe Biden — Just Another Two-Faced Politician – Will the “real” Joe Biden please stand up?
It is increasingly hard to know which Biden we’re seeing, and it often changes like the wind.
Sometimes he is the nice guy, like that favorite elderly uncle who shares the occasionally outlandish story – that is until he is swearing and yelling at staffers like an angry old man, or lecturing Americans by talking down to them.
Sometimes he’s also the humble man of the people, who is quick to tell you he is Jill Biden’s husband – only to then remind us that everything good in the country is the result of his hard work that no past president had accomplished.
Other times we have the unifier-in-chief who only sees all Americans as equals – until he warns us of the MAGA Republicans who are the enemy of everything good in the world.
Many people, and especially politicians, must put on different faces depending on the situation, yet, in the case of Joe Biden we’re never sure what we’re going to get. And worse, we never know which is the real Biden.
Joe Biden: The Old Yeller?
As Axios.com was quick to report this week, in public, President Joe Biden is one who whispers to make a point during a speech.
He is often photographed with his aviator sunglasses and shares his love of ice cream. Moreover, he has attempted to paint a picture that shows him as a loving family man – who will quickly tell you how proud he is of his SIX grandchildren, despite the fact that he actually has seven grandchildren.
Behind the scenes, Biden can be described as a man who is feared not loved by those around him. There have been reports that he is quick to anger and often shouts unprintable words at staffers to the point that few want to face him alone. Unfortunately, that fact has been dismissed somehow as a sign of trust and even respect, according to some White House insiders. Biden apparently shows such trust and adulation by acting like a child who is refused a second portion of ice cream!
To the casual observers that does sound a lot like enabling bad behavior on Biden’s part. Even if he does mean that his ability to yell and swear at an aide is a sign of respect, it is still the sort of behavior that would lead to many getting fired.
Man of the People – Who Knows How To Take Credit
A corny line that Joe Biden repeatedly uses to introduce himself is “I’m Jill Biden’s husband” – downplaying that he is the most powerful man on Earth and rising her up. Though it is meant to be endearing, it seems disingenuous most of the time.
This is also contrary to Biden’s claims that his policies – and his policies alone – are making America better. Past presidents have touted their record, but a lot of the time the word “we” is included as in the American people.
There is no “I” in team, but Biden won’t let us forget it – and not in the usual way. It doesn’t come across as a team effort when Biden tells it. This is notable as he relies on his signature “on my watch” line all too often. That should make us forget any of his claims of being a humble man of the people.
Instead, we’re witness to the Uber Biden – the man who can do it all, and by his account has in fact done it all, from being a lifeguard that confronted the local “bad dude,” to teaching courses about the Second Amendment in law school to driving a truck.
These claims are meant to reinforce that he’s a wise elder statesman but also a blue-collar man of the people. In truth, he’s an elderly and angry statesman who owns two houses and has a net worth in the millions.
There Are No Blue States or Red States – But Yet, There Is a Blue Wall
On the campaign trail and then again as president, Biden has liberally “borrowed” a line from his former boss President Barack Obama, when he stated boldly that there are “no red states, no blue states, just the United States.” As Biden has announced that he’ll seek re-election, it likely won’t be the last we’ll hear of the line.
In fairness, it is a great sentiment and one that more Americans should embrace.
There are certainly Democrats who live in the deepest of Red States, just as there are Republicans in places like New York City. San Franciso and Chicago. We should be able to look past our political differences – but arguably it is politicians like Biden that serve to throw fuel on the fire.
To that end, let’s review Biden’s use of the line about there being no Red or Blue States.
He employed it in his 2020 victory speech days after the election, where Biden stated boldly, “I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide but unify, who doesn’t see red states and blue states, only sees the United States.”
Biden was attempting to truly unify the nation… of perhaps that would be the case, but it rang entirely hollow as just a day earlier Biden spoke from his campaign HQ in Wilmington, Delaware, and stated, “We rebuilt the blue wall that crumbled a few years ago” – referring to his victories in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
It is simply hard to understand how there can be no Red States or Blue States if a blue wall exists. The answer is that this comes back to Biden taking credit whether credit is even due.
Biden the great unifier is also the guy who has taken every opportunity to remind us that we’re all Americans with the same American dreams, yet, it is those nasty MAGA Republicans that are the problem for the future of the country.
To recap, Biden is a family man who is proud even of his troubled son Hunter Biden, yet won’t acknowledge Hunter’s daughter. Biden is a kindly elder statesman who has a smile that can light up a room – until it is turned upside down to a massive frown followed by a profanity-laden rant directed at staffers. He’s the humble man of the people who is the smartest gaffe machine in the room, and there is a blue wall in the center of the country that has no Red States or Blue States.
That sums up Joe Biden. It isn’t so much that he has two faces, but rather he’s just as two-faced as they come.
