Joe Biden Is a Liar Like No Other: George Washington never actually said, “Father I cannot tell a lie,” but it is an enduring story that was meant to reinforce the honesty and integrity of the Founding Fathers. Likewise, Abraham Lincoln is remembered too for his honesty.
Unfortunately, we accept – maybe even expect – our lawmakers to be far less truthful to the American people. This has certainly been the case with former President Donald Trump who continues to lie even as he mounts a campaign to return to the White House. Trump is at least routinely called out for his lies – which the media rightfully labels as such.
Joe Biden: Wow, What a Liar
Then there is President Joe Biden, who is regularly “fact check” and has earned enough Pinocchios from The Washington Post that he the White House should pay royalties for rights to the character at this point. In fact, in November, the paper of record gave the self-described “gaffe machine” a “Bottomless Pinocchio” rating for claiming he had spent more time with Chinese President Xi Jinping than any other head of state.
However, the media is softer on Joe Biden, rarely labelling his statements as “lies.” At issue too, is that even when Biden tells the truth it is often out of context.
A case in point was last November when the White House proclaimed how senior citizens were receiving the largest increase in Social Security benefits in 10 years “through President Biden’s leadership.”
Yes, the increase was real and it was the largest increase, but that’s because a 1972 law holds that Social Security is adjusted each year to keep up with inflation rates.
Biden’s leadership may have resulted in the near record high inflation that led to the increase, so perhaps Biden and the White House weren’t technically lying on that one.
What is especially notable about Biden’s lies and half-truths is that even when the fact checkers pounce, he continues to repeat the lies.
Earlier this week, he once again shared the heartwarming but repeatedly debunked tale of his days riding the train home to Delaware and a personal exchange with the conductor.
Biden loves telling the story involving conductor Angelo Negri and their apparent friendship, and how he logged more than a million miles taking the train home to help raise his two sons. The man in Biden’s telling was real, but had retired decades before the story was alleged to have occurred.
In addition, a number of other details don’t add up, and the story was declared false by numerous outlets.
Perhaps it would be forgivable, like the old uncle who embellishes his stories, but Biden has repeatedly ended by stating, “I swear to God. True story.” His hand may not have been on a bible, and he may not be taking an oath, but the sincerity Biden puts into his tall tales is shocking.
At this point, it may be that he truly believes his version of the events.
And the story is becoming more nonsensical. In his telling this week, while touting a $4 billion construction effort to build a pair of train tunnels in Baltimore, Biden proudly stated, “I used to about 15% of the time ride with the engineers, for real. And I’m the only guy I’m aware of – when I stopped riding Amtrak – that had a key to get in the back.”
Amtrak hasn’t responded to the claims, but it would be shocking to suggest, even pre-9/11 that anyone other than an Amtrak employee would have a “key” – while even a U.S. Senator likely wouldn’t regularly get to ride with the engineers.
Such fact-checking shouldn’t be necessary for our politicians, but with Joe Biden it seems it best to take everything he says with a grain of salt and determine if anything is real.
On Tuesday, New York Times Columnist Bret Stephens asked the question “How Will Joe Biden Be Remembered in 50 Years?” Stephens suggested it could read, “He defeated Donald Trump, and ________.”
The columnist offered several possibilities, but at this point, Biden could be remembered as the president who lied a lot.
