Democrats and Trump Court Civil War: Donald Trump seems set to be arrested on Tuesday of this week. It is believed that New York City District Alvin Bragg is indicting the forty-fifth president for making illegal payouts to the pornographic actress Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about a sexual tryst that the two had many years ago in Lake Tahoe. The whole thing sounds like an episode of the 1980s series Dallas, but we’re talking about Donald Trump, whose life is a caricature of 1980s corporate greed and excess.
And this indictment will only ensure that Donald Trump is, in fact, the Republican nominee in 2024—which is precisely what the Democratic Party wants. Democrats love squaring off against Donald Trump, who is the greatest source of turnout for Democrat voters in years.
Democratic Abuse of Power
It must, of course, first be noted that the Democrats are clearly abusing their powers to pursue a political enemy. The Democratic Party affiliated Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who has been repeatedly accused by New York law enforcement officials of downgrading felonies to misdemeanors as part of his overall soft on crime approach is, when it comes to his political enemy of Donald Trump, upgrading a misdemeanor to a felony—on very shaky grounds.
Let us not forget that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2016 was accused by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) of misusing her presidential campaign funds to pay for the salacious Steele Dossier which promulgated the damaging special counselor’s investigation into false charges that Donald Trump was a Russian spy. In the same type of proceeding, Mrs. Clinton was not required to turn herself in for the court proceedings, as former President Trump is supposedly being made to do. She was allowed to write a letter explaining her actions to the court—and the court quickly found in favor of her.
The Democrats, however, want the picture of Trump in handcuffs to circulate around the world. They don’t care that he is most likely going to get away with a slap on his wrist. All that matters is that the powerful image exists and made public. For the first time in our nation’s otherwise great history, a former American president will be arrested and made to look like a common criminal.
Whatever crimes Donald Trump may have committed, in this case, a misdemeanor at best that has a maximum sentence of four years (just enough to keep him out of office, or so the Democrats hope), the fact that a former president will be carted to a courthouse in cuffs will be utterly destructive to the institution of the presidency.
This is Still About Hillary Clinton’s Ego (and Obama’s Legacy)
You see, the Democratic Party’s elite believed they were entitled to win in 2016 because they had fielded a better candidate—Hillary Rodham Clinton—a candidate who had paid her dues, a candidate who was destined to become the first female president.
Hillary would finally burst through the glass ceiling that sexist Republicans had maintained for decades only to find Trump’s rump pressed against it.
Democrats, Like Ahab, Hunt their Orange Whale
They spent the entirety of his presidency trying to prove that the brash billionaire was a Russian spy (imagine the nightmare, by the way, of trying to be his FSB handler!) The Democrats went mad trying to prove every ridiculous conspiracy theory that existed about Trump in a way that they had never done to any Republican president—except maybe Richard M. Nixon. Even Ronald Reagan was ultimately treated better.
Now, the Democrats are dragging a former president to jail. They don’t realize that they may very well get their man. But, in the process, they might trigger something far darker. Already Trump, proving he learnt nothing from the January 6 riots, is calling for his followers to “protest” across the country. We know what happens when Trump calls for his most committed followers to protest: violence. In the darkest corners of the web, some are speculating that this could be the spart of the Second American Civil War.
One shudders to think of such a prospect.
Although, the last Civil War was sparked because the slave-owning South told the North if one man—Abraham Lincoln—were elected to the presidency they were leaving the Union. It always comes down to one man. Unlike the previous Civil War, which was fought at least in part for actual moral justifications by the North, a second Civil War would be waged over the pettiest of partisan politics that future generations will never comprehend. It would be more like the gruesome Spanish Civil War than the one America fought in the twentieth century.
One man again—Trump—may be the spark of another conflict between Americans.
Democrats and Trump Court Civil War 2
Though, perhaps the Democrats want that. Just look at how they’ve spent the last several years criminalizing dissent. Remember the way that 1/6 protesters and rioters, regardless of whether they committed any real crimes, have been jailed and were denied basic due process because they were deemed to be “domestic terrorists” by the Biden Administration. Look at how the government enforced the most onerous lockdowns on the American people throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
If they can force people to take vaccines they may not want to—and threaten their livelihoods if they did not, as they did my wife—then imagine what the Democrats could get the government to do in order to shut down speech from anyone associated with the MAGA side of the Republican Party. Such people will have been deemed literal terrorists. After all, the Republicans voted for a misogynistic, boorish, and treasonous Donald Trump to usurp the throne from their beloved Hillary Clinton, who terrorized Democrats and who sullied our temple of democracy…or something.
People who talk like that publicly and who believe these things, if given the opportunity, will behave dangerously against their perceived foes. In this case, their perceived foes are fellow Americans who simply happen to have different political views than they do.
How Did This Happen?
Lastly, the question must be asked: how did the public discover that Trump was about to be arrested?
Trump himself posted this fact to social media.
Trump posted this information for the same reason that he posted last year that the FBI had raided his Mar-a-Lago compound: to galvanize his base, generate headlines, and muddy whatever investigative waters were underway.
For Trump, he must get himself out of legal trouble and will militate his followers to his cause, whether he’s being wrongly accused or not. Remember, he consistently tells his mostly Blue Collar and middle-class followers that he is their vengeance against a corrupt system that has abused and abandoned them. “They’re not coming after me, they’re coming after you”, Trump frequently admonishes his followers.
Trump also wants images of him in handcuffs. In much the same way it will antagonize Democratic Party voters, it will motivate his base. Trump works best politically when he is the victim. Such an image will be just the trick that Trump needs to overcome the dynamic challenge that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis poses to Trump’s reelection bid. So, Trump leaked his pending indictment to suck whatever oxygen was in DeSantis’ shadow campaign. Fact is, Trump isn’t going away and DeSantis’ quiet approach to campaigning won’t work on Trump.
The Democrats, with a very public indictment of Trump, will likely hand Trump the GOP nomination in 2024. Which, of course, is precisely what they want. They get to paint the Republicans as lunatics and themselves as sane (which is beyond hilarious). No one generates greater Democratic Party turnout during every election since 2018 than Trump.
Get ready for a second Biden term at this rate. As Trump might say, “Sad!”
