Hunter Biden Is Facing a Legal Crisis

GOP lawmakers have accused Hunter of using his father’s influence to make money on the deal that allegedly also fattened the bank accounts of the president’s brother and his daughter-in-law. The Oversight Committee has requested more information from Hunter and the younger Biden’s legal team has refused to hand over additional documents.

More Legal Headaches for Hunter Biden: The legal quicksand is getting deeper for Hunter Biden and members of his family. President Joe Biden’s son already has questionable ties to at least one Chinese company, the U.S. House Oversight Committee believes. The leadership of this Republican-led panel thinks bank records that show potentially incriminating activities about Hunter, his uncle, and his sister-in-law are only the tip of the iceberg concerning alleged corruption and influence peddling by the president and his family.

More Subpoenas

The Oversight Committee is now issuing additional subpoenas to cast a wider net on the Biden family’s bank accounts. Fox News reported that the committee has subpoenaed Bank of America, Cathay Bank, JPMorgan Chase, and HSBC USA, for financial records. Financial documents from former Hunter Biden business associate Mervyn Yan are also being requested.

Meanwhile, Democrats on the committee are crying foul. Ranking member Congressman Jamie Raskin of Maryland has accused Chairman James Comer of Kentucky of hiding information about the investigation from Democrats. But Comer said it is Raskin that is leaking details of the investigation and hiding other information to muddy the waters.

Comer gave the following statement to Fox News. “Ranking Member Raskin has again disclosed the committee’s subpoenas in a cheap attempt to thwart cooperation from other witnesses. Given his antics with the first bank subpoena, the American people and media should be asking what information Ranking Member Raskin is trying to hide this time. No one should be fooled by Ranking Member Raskin’s games. We have the bank records, and the facts are not good for the Biden family.”

Bank Records Proved Nothing

Democrats on the committee are skeptical that the bank record evidence so far is improper or illegal. They say that none of the money transfers implicate President Biden and that the financial documents show that Hunter’s actions have been legitimate and above-board.

Bank records have allegedly shown that a Chinese energy firm sent a Biden family associate $3 million, $1 million of which was then allegedly disbursed to Hunter and two family members. This reportedly happened a few months after Joe Biden left office as vice president. Republicans say these findings were the result of them examining suspicious activity reports from the Department of Justice.

The Oversight Committee has requested more information from Hunter and the younger Biden’s legal team has refused to hand over additional documents.

Raskin is setting up a defense against this investigation of the Bidens. “I fear this wildly overbroad subpoena suggests that your interest in this investigation is not in pursuing defined facts or informing public legislation but conducting a dragnet of political opposition research on behalf of former President Trump,” he said.

The White House has also been defiant about what the committee has found against the Bidens so far. Spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said Republicans on the panel were spreading “inaccuracies and lies,” despite the bank records. President Biden himself said “that’s not true” when asked about the financial transfers. Comer replied, “bank records don’t lie.”

Comer has yet to release information on what the money from the Chinese firm, called CEFC Energy, might have been used for. The White House has said Hunter, as a private citizen, has every right to pursue his own business activities. Comer has maintained the committee will continue to follow the money in the case.
