Marjorie Taylor Greene Has a New Crazy Idea You Might Hate

Greene loves being provocative and relishes taking the other side during debates. This is likely attributed to her enjoying the limelight in the media and her desire to make a national name for herself.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is a contrarian. She often says things that are at odds with conventional wisdom. The Georgia Congresswoman recently disagreed with those who believe in climate change by tweeting that global warming is a “scam” and that fossil fuels are “amazing.” Greene does not care that many scientists have determined that climate change is real and that the use of fossil fuels has contributed to the problem.

The thing is this: her viewpoint is way out of the mainstream.

Does Planetary Gravitational Pull Lead to ‘Normal’ Levels of Climate Change?

Greene offered an unlikely explanation of what causes climate change. Changing climate is “normal,” she tweeted on April 15. “Because we live on a spinning planet that rotates around a much bigger sun along with other planets and heavenly bodies rotating around that all create gravitational pull on another while our galaxy rotates and travels through the universe.”

It is not clear how that statement bolsters her argument. She also said fossil fuels are natural and amazing. Greene stated that fossil fuels are abundant, reliable, and create numerous other products.

There Is Support for Greene’s Skepticism of Climate Change

While it is true that the majority of scientists believe climate change is real and that it is manmade, not every analyst believes in climate change or the dangers of fossil fuels. Alex Epstein, writing in his book Fossil Future, thinks that climate change is overblown and alarmist. He also lauded the use of fossil fuels.

“Fossil fuels are still the dominant source of energy around the world, while much-hyped renewables are causing skyrocketing electricity prices and increased blackouts. Fossil-fueled development has brought global poverty to a record low. While fossil fuels have contributed one-degree of warming in the past 170 years, climate-related deaths are at an all-time low,” Epstein wrote.

Polls Support the Belief In Climate Change

A strong majority of Americans believe in climate change, according to an AP-NORC poll released last August. Seventy-one percent of those surveyed said that climate change is occurring and of that percentage, 50 percent said it is caused by human activity. Seventy percent of those asked said that it is necessary to make lifestyle changes to reduce the level of global warming.

Almost 100 Percent of Scientists Agree

NASA, according to its website entitled “Global Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet,” said that 97 percent of scientists “agree that humans are causing global warming and climate change.” Another oft-cited survey quoted by Cornell University looked at over 88,000 climate-related studies. This analysis found that 99.9 percent of scientists believe in climate change and that it is caused by humans.

So, based on public opinion polls and surveying scientists and their research, it appears that Greene is in a small minority. Greene, of course, is free to speak her mind and if she wants to be a climate skeptic she is allowed to do so. The author Epstein, moreover, posited that the experts could be “wrong” and explained that there had been other scares in history in which scientists have been mistaken. These false predictions have said that the world is going to end because of catastrophes related to overpopulation and food shortages.

Greene loves being provocative and relishes taking the other side during debates. This is likely attributed to her enjoying the limelight in the media and her desire to make a national name for herself

Some believe science, of course, is about debate and introspection. Climate change adherents mainly believe that science is settled and not open to debate. Skeptics have every right to question this consensus and Greene, even though she is not a scientist, is free to hold a dissenting opinion, despite overwhelming support for the belief in climate change.
