AOC’s ‘Endorsement’ of Joe Biden Has Some Big Problems

AOC plans to support President Joe Biden’s re-election effort; however, she has problems with some of his positions.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, or AOC,  D-N.Y., plans to support President Joe Biden’s re-election effort; however, she has problems with some of his positions.

Biden will need AOC for help with younger, more Left-wing voters.

A new Newsweek poll shows that 1/3 of Democrats say they are supporting either Robert F. Kennedy Jr. or Marianne Williamson for president in next year’s primaries. The Echelon Insights survey of 472 likely Democratic voters found that 33% said they would prefer someone other than Biden.

On paper Biden is set to win 70% of the Democratic vote; however, if they stay home on Election Day 2024 it could hand the White House back to Donald Trump.

“So, [the] president’s only primary opponents are Marianne Williamson, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Haven’t been any rumors about anyone else even thinking of jumping in. Will you be supporting Joe Biden for re-election?” asked “Pod Save America” host Jon Favreau.

“I believe, given that field, yes,” Ocasio-Cortez replied.

AOC: That Endorsement Has a Problem

He has not gone far enough to the Left on issues such as immigration for her tastes despite allowing an all-but-open southern border with Mexico.

“I think he’s done quite well, given the limitations that we have,” Ocasio-Cortez said on the “Pod Save America” podcast Thursday. “I do think that there are ebbs and flows.”

AOC, who ran for Congress as a major proponent of the Green New Deal, is pleased with Biden’s initiatives such as the Inflation Reduction Act which she sees as a downpayment on the green agenda.

“There are areas that I think are quite strong — when he came right out of the gate with the American Rescue Plan, and of course the Inflation Reduction Act was a massive step in terms of our climate agenda,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

She argued that the Left has a major “structural” issue in the form of the U.S. Senate when it comes to implementing its political agenda.

A year ago, Ocasio-Cortez came out in favor of abolishing the filibuster to eliminate the ability of Republicans to halt legislation in the wake of the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

“The issue w/ ‘elect 2 Dems for Roe’ is it’s not clear that’s the #. We need to count votes,” she wrote. “Filibuster needs 51, but it’s not just Manchin & Sinema holding out. What to do? CALL YOUR DEM SENATOR + ask them to CLEARLY support an abolished or talking filibuster.”

AOC: Biden Not Doing Enough to Liberalize Immigration

The self-described “Democratic Socialist,” who belongs to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), does not think some of his policies are not far enough to the Left.

On immigration, she thinks he could do more to remove obstacles to migrants entering the country and obtaining employment.

“There are plenty of other issues as well,” she said. “Even with what is happening with asylees — the ability to grant people basic work authorization so that they can work while they are going through their legal processing. There is [an] enormous amount of political resistance to that.”

AOC has been a rabble-rouser in the Democratic Caucus since her election, but Democrats now see her as a force to be reckoned with in her party and look to her for support.
