More than a few former presidents have had their metaphorical “attack dog” – the person who could go on a verbal attack against the president’s enemies.
Vice President Spiro Agnew has been noted for being the model for an attack dog while serving under President Richard Nixon, while as vice president under President Barack Obama, Joe Biden was known to be a bit of an attack dog in his own right.
Joe Biden and His Attack Dog
Now President Joe Biden appears to have a literal attack dog in the White House, namely the two-year-old German shepherd named Commander.
The hound has reportedly bitten at least seven people in a four-month span since the former first dog Major was ousted from the White House for similar aggressive behavior.
The Associated Press also reported that Secret Service officers have been bitten 10 times between October 2022 and January 2023, including one incident that even required a hospital visit by the injured law enforcement officer, according to records from the Department of Homeland Security.
The White House and the Secret Service had appeared to play down the situation on Tuesday, but according to the AP, the latest incidents have only served to raise questions about why the Bidens brought yet another German shepherd to the executive mansion and why the attacks have continued.
“These shocking records raise fundamental questions about President Biden and the Secret Service,” Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton told The New York Post. “This is a special sort of craziness and corruption where a president would allow his dog to repeatedly attack and bite Secret Service and White House personnel. And rather than protect its agents, the Secret Service tried to illegally hide documents about the abuse of its agents and officers by the Biden family.”
Angry Like Its Master?
President Joe Biden is known to have quite a temper, oftentimes yelling at staffers, according to recent media reports, and the NYC tabloid also openly mocked the commander-in-chief while reporting on the news of Commander’s bad behavior.
“There’s an easily startled, confused creature in the White House prone to fits of anger. There is also a German shepherd. COMMANDER IN CHOMP,” was the caption on the front page of The New York Post on Wednesday.
Not in Command of Commander?
Commander arrived at the White House in 2021, and the incidents involving his biting Secret Service agents reportedly occurred when the dog was walking the grounds unleashed. However, in an incident that occurred last October first lady Dr. Jill Biden “couldn’t regain control” of the dog as it charged at a member of the Secret Service.
“The White House complex is a unique and often stressful environment for family pets, and the First Family is working through ways to make this situation better for everyone,” Elizabeth Alexander, communications director for the first lady, told CNN. “They have been partnering with the Secret Service and Executive Residence staff on additional leashing protocols and training, as well as establishing designated areas for Commander to run and exercise.”
Commander is now in the proverbial doghouse, but if the bad behavior continues, he could be permanently forced out of the White House – even if voters agree to let Biden stay for another four years.
