Democrats Plan to Make the GOP Pay for their Obsession over Impeaching Joe Biden

Democrats are well aware that impeaching President Joe Biden is not a unanimously popular move within the GOP – and they plan to exploit it.

Democrats Seek To Capitalize On Joe Biden Impeachment Inquiry – Democrats are well aware that impeaching President Joe Biden is not a unanimously popular move within the GOP – and they plan to exploit it.

The Joe Biden Impeachment Drama

On Tuesday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced the formal launch of an impeachment inquiry. Such a move provides lawmakers with greater legal authority to investigate the president, allowing them to issue subpoenas for documents or testimony that can be more easily enforced in court.

This comes despite reservations from GOP Senators and House Republicans in Democrat-leaning areas.

“These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction and corruption,” said McCarthy on Tuesday. “They warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives. That’s why today I am directing our House to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.”

If impeachment passes the 218-vote threshold (Republicans currently have 222), the inquiry will be passed onto the Democrat-led Senate. As a result, GOP Senators are skeptical. There is even a question if the Senate would take up the matter, which some would argue there is no legal requirement that they have to, especially with Democrats running the Senate.

“It really comes to how do you prioritize your time? I don’t know of anybody who believes [Senate Majority Leader] Chuck Schumer will take it up and actually have a trial and convict a sitting president,” Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate GOP leadership team, told The Hill.

“Since they got the majority, they got the chairmen of the various committees, they could do all of that now without going to a formal inquiry,” he added. “Members of the House don’t really care what I think. All I can tell you, it’s unlikely to be successful in the Senate.”

Jamie Raskin’s Letter

Prior to McCarthy’s announcement, the  Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, Jamie Raskin, penned a new letter on Monday slamming Republicans for their failure to find conclusive evidence through its investigations into Hunter.

“Rather than owning up to the fact that the evidence in his ‘top priority’ investigation has established no wrongdoing by President Biden, Chairman Comer has resorted to misrepresenting and distorting this huge body of evidence to make baseless and sensationalistic claims,” Raskin wrote. “Chairman Comer has repeatedly, and without evidence, asserted the falsehood that President Biden has inappropriately received foreign money.”

Raskin added that Committee chair James Comer had never proved his claim that President Biden has “taken millions and millions of dollars from bad people and bad countries around the world.”

Even Republicans remain unconvinced. Speaking on MSNBC, Ken Buck of the Freedom Caucus said the “time for impeachment is the time when there’s evidence linking President Biden to a high crime or misdemeanor.”

“That doesn’t exist right now,” the Freedom Caucus chair added.
