In a statement published on Tuesday, Rep. James Comer, the head of the Oversight and Accountability Committee, confirmed that the Department of the Treasury has given House investigators the go-ahead to investigate Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, as well as his business associates.

The news follows years of reports about Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings, the role his father played in deals made during his time in the Biden administration, and the First Son’s well-documented drug problem

Hunter Biden Has Problems

“After two months of dragging their feet, the Treasury Department is finally providing us with access to the suspicious activity reports for the Biden family and their associates’ business transactions,” Comer, a Republican representing Kentucky’s 1st District, said in a statement.

The Treasury has agreed to allow investigators to review suspicious activity reports, a term that refers to the additional review banks perform of some transactions over $5,000.

The statement also follows a letter sent to Comer on Sunday by the House Oversight Committee’s top-ranking Democrat, Rep. James Raskin, in which he confirms that Comer had already subpoenaed Bank of America for records related to the business activity of three of Biden’s closest business associates.

According to the letter, which was obtained by CNN, the subpoena requests “all financial records” over the last fourteen years. Those targeted by the subpoena include John Robinson Walker and two other men connected to a joint venture established by Hunter Biden and executives of the bankrupt Chinese energy conglomerate, CEFC China Energy.

Comer is seeking 150 alerts from Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and American banks relating to transactions including the son of the president as well as James Biden, the brother of the president.

Comer is also seeking access to reports connected to Sara Biden, wife of James Biden, as well as business associates Devon Archer and Eric Schwerin.

Comer Teases Evidence of Biden Family Influence-Peddling Scheme

Speaking to Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday, Comer revealed that business associate John Walker had received a $3 million wire transfer from two people with connections to the Chinese Communist Party. The Kentucky Republican said that the money was then split up between multiple members of the Biden family.

Comer also revealed this week how bank records obtained via subpoena implicate a “new” member of the Biden family in an alleged influence-peddling scheme still under investigation by his panel.

“The very next day after that wire was received, the Walker account started transferring money into three different Biden family members’ accounts, including a new Biden family member that’s never before been identified as someone being involved in the influence peddling scheme,” Comer told Hannity, adding that his probe has not found any evidence that the payments were the result of any business – suggesting the payments could have been made for other reasons.

Comer also told America’s Newsroom that the investigation is not just an investigation of Hunter Biden, but of President Joe Biden

While the name of the new Biden family member has not yet been announced, it is expected to revealed in due course.
