Kari Lake Is Trying to Make a Comeback

Kari Lake, in recent months, has been hit with a series of court losses regarding her attempts to overturn her election loss. Will she run for Senate?

Here Comes Kari Lake: The defeated gubernatorial candidate, who still has not admitted to losing her election last year, is reportedly eying another office

Kari Lake: The Update

Kari Lake, who ran for governor of Arizona in 2022 and lost to Democrat Kate Hobbs by 17,000 votes, is one of the few candidates in that election cycle who did not admit defeat.

Even most candidates who bought into Donald Trump’s 2020 “stop the steal” narrative were willing to concede if they lost, but Lake did not.

Now, there are indications that Lake, a retired news anchor, is eying a different office in 2024.

Lake posted a photo to Twitter Wednesday, stating, “Are you ready for the next chapter?” Journalist Andrew Egger of The Dispatch quoted spokesperson Duncan Colton as stating “I’m 99 percent sure she’s going to run for Senate.”

Lake For Senate?

A Senate race in Arizona could be one of the most intriguing ones in the country in 2024.

Sen. Krysten Sinema, who last year left the Democratic Party to become an independent, would presumably run as an independent, although she has not declared if she is running again.

Rep. Ruben Gallego, a longtime House member, has already announced that he’s running as a Democrat. And Lake is likely not to be the only Republican running.

How the votes would be split in the event that all three candidates run — would Sinema split Democratic votes or Republican ones? — remains to be seen.

The Hill reported in April on a recent poll by  J. L. Partners of a potential GOP Republican primary for the Senate in Arizona.

Lake leads with 38 percent, over developer Karrin Taylor Robson with 10 percent, with Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb at 8 percent. A full 29 percent, however, are undecided.

“If Kari Lake decides to run, it’s clear she is not only the front-runner but will run away with the nomination. The GOP establishment would be smart to get behind her right away so we can win Arizona,” a GOP strategist told The Hill.

A Recall?

Lake, the Arizona Republic said, opposed a plan to recall Hobbs from office.

“I will fight in the courts and take every possible legal avenue to fight this great crime/injustice — including taking our case to the US Supreme Court,” Lake said on Twitter on April 30.

Lake Keeps Losing in Court

Lake, in recent months, has been hit with a series of court losses regarding her attempts to overturn her election loss.

She has also spent a lot of time on conspiracy theories that go beyond the election, including the idea that Gov. Hobbs and other Democratic politicians in Arizona have been bribed by Mexican drug cartels, as well as the highly questionable claim that an eight-year-old girl was found near the border with the DNA of 67 different men.

Lake has also authored a book, called “Unafraid: Just Getting Started,” which will be released on June 27.

“Kari Lake shares an exclusive, uncensored look inside her journey,” the book promotional copy says. “From the time she walked away from the media, to the beginning of her bid for governor, her David and Goliath primary campaign, her endorsement from the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, and the events of the general election campaign that led to the sabotaged Arizona election of 2022.”

The book is being published by Winning Team Publishing, which also published Donald Trump’s recent “Letters to Trump”; the company was co-founded by the president’s son Donald Trump, Jr.

CPAC Time

Lake has also announced that she will be appearing this week at the CPAC Hungary event in Budapest, along with another Arizona politician associated with “stop the steal,” Rep. Paul Gosar. The CPAC Hungary website describes Lake as the “winner of CPAC vice president straw poll.”  That poll took place back in early March, at the CPAC event near Washington, where Lake later spoke at the  Ronald Reagan Dinner.
