Could Joe Biden and Kamala Harris Get Impeached?

Republicans do not have the votes to advance these Joe Biden impeachment efforts, although Ogles’ version could have legs depending on the outcome of the Bidens’ alleged corruption and bribery investigation.

It was only a matter of time before someone in the U.S. House of Representatives filed impeachment articles against Joe Biden based on the latest investigation from the House Oversight Committee.

Republican Congressman Andy Ogles of Tennessee believes the president and Vice President Kamala Harris have “weaponized” the government to hide from corruption allegations and for not sufficiently quelling the southern border crisis.

Joe Biden Is Allegedly Engaged in ‘Influence Peddling’

Ogles said in his articles that Biden attempted to “shield the business and influence peddling schemes of his family from Congressional oversight and public accountability.”

Ogles recommends Biden and Harris be removed and perhaps banned from holding office again.

Ogles Has Pursued Potential Biden Impeachment for Months

Moreover, Ogles said that the president has no respect for the rule of law.

During the situation at the border, Biden is allegedly acting in a “manner contrary to the public trust and subversive of constitutional government, to the great prejudice of the cause of law and justice and to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.”

Ogles said during his 2022 re-election campaign that he would fight to impeach Biden and Harris.

Ogles Said Kamala Harris Is Incompetent

Ogles also thinks that Harris has exhibited “extraordinary incompetence” during her lack of effort to reduce the level of illegal immigration.

Ogle told Fox News the pair violated their oath to the Constitution. The president also has attempted to cover up his “illicit family business dealings,” and Biden has “abused power.”

Ogles’ articles of impeachment come as the GOP members of the House Oversight Committee claim they have found evidence in an FBI document that purports to show that Biden and his son Hunter each received a $5 million bribe from a Ukrainian energy firm while the elder Biden was vice president.

Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa also said on the Senate floor June 12 that there are recordings of Biden and his son made with an executive at Burisma, the company in question, showing evidence that the payments were made. This would ostensibly be compensation for policies enacted with the help of Biden that would create a favorable business environment for Burisma.

It is not clear if Ogles is acting in concert with other Republican lawmakers in the House or if Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy gave his blessing to Ogles’ action.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia also filed articles of impeachment against the president this year for allegedly for “thwarting the will of Congress” concerning Biden’s perceived inaction regarding the illegal immigration situation at the border. The White House called Greene’s effort a “shameless sideshow political stunt.”

There Is Still A Long, Fraught Path to Impeachment

Republicans do not have the votes to advance these Joe Biden impeachment efforts, although Ogles’ version could have legs depending on the outcome of the Bidens’ alleged corruption and bribery investigation. Most other aspects of Ogles and Greene’s impeachment articles have to do with differences of opinion on policy and not high crimes and misdemeanors. But bribery is different. The Constitution explicitly says that bribery is an impeachable offense.

Biden when addressed with the bribery accusation asked, “Where is the money?” And he exclaimed, What a bunch of malarkey.”

A White House spokesman has also described the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into the Biden family’s alleged corruption as another political stunt that shows no evidence of wrongdoing.

In the Senate, where a trial would have to be conducted if the president were impeached, there does not appear to be any senator going on record about supporting impeachment of Biden at this point. In December, Senator John Cornyn was asked if Biden’s actions amounted to an impeachable offense, he replied, “Not really, No.” Utah Senator Mitt Romney also said in December that Biden’s actions up to that point did not rise to High Crimes and Misdemeanors. But that was before the House had fully unraveled the alleged actions of what the Republicans call the “Biden crime family.”

If all Democrats stand together and vote to not remove, the Senate will also not have enough votes to convict the president in a trial should he be impeached. They would need a two-thirds majority to remove. So, impeachment and removal are premature at this point, but it is not surprising a vocal minority in the House are pursuing this path against Biden.
