Is the GOP Getting Ready to Dump Donald Trump?

Kevin McCarthy Admits Trump Could Lose In 2024 – House Speaker Kevin McCarthy may be an ally of former President Donald Trump, but that doesn’t mean he’s a cultist.

In fact, the Republican House leader hinted on Tuesday that he is open to another candidate leading the party into the next election.

During an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box, the Republican representative said that Trump may not be the “strongest” person to challenge President Joe Biden.

“Can he win that election? Yeah he can,” McCarthy said. “the question is, is he the strongest to win the election?”

Former President Trump, no doubt well aware of what every high-profile Republican figure is saying about his campaign, then learned that his ally believes another candidate may be a wiser choice for the party.

“I don’t know the answer,” he continued.

McCarthy then argued that “anybody can beat Biden,” before also suggesting that Biden can “beat other people.”

“Yes, Biden can beat them. It’s on any given day,” McCarthy said.

The convoluted response could reflect McCarthy’s fear of angering the former president – but it may also be a reflection of his inability to determine just how the American people feel. The voters did, after all, choose President Biden – a man who spent almost his entire campaign in his basement – over a president that radically lowered taxes, took dramatic action on the border, and made great strides in overhauling and radically improving the U.S. economy.

How Will Donald Trump React?

The news will no doubt anger the former president, who often calls on Republicans to remain “loyal” to both him and his vision for the United States.

When Trump left office in January 2021, the former president surprised his backers when he met with McCarthy at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida to discuss his future in the party and how he could help Republican candidates with House and Senate seats in the 2022 midterms.

While the Republican Party won the House by a narrow margin in 2022, Trump was eventually blamed for a number of Senate race losses that the Republicans were expected to win. Combined with Trump’s continued support for establishment figures like RNC head Ronna McDaniel, Trump somehow towed the line between populist radicalism and establishment conservatism.

And now, with establishment conservative figures like McCarthy expressing concerns about Trump’s 2024 candidacy, the former president is faced with a problem.

Who in the Republican Party can he count on to back him against an insurgent like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and how will he ensure a positive legacy for his presidency if he loses for a second time in 2024?
